Mich and Miami) in the NCHC are leading toward "IN". Plus, the NCAA has said single sports schools can opt "IN" for those sports only. So, it would be doable for any number of those schools (SCSU, UMD, Augie or Min St). So, UND will need to opt "IN" at some point.
In Hockey the change is from 18 to 26 scholarships. But, it is unclear how those schools are going to handle the option of having more scholarships. I believe that is why UND is waiting. Plus, it is going to have broader Title IX impacts in other sports for UND. The roster limits on womens sports would require UND to cut women's headcounts and it would throw UND out of Title IX compliance. So, UND would need to add a womans sport or cut a mens sports. UND can remove 1 mens sport. It would mostly be Golf or Tennis. I believe that it would be tennis.
Other MVFC Schools: North Dakota State athletic director Matt Larsen recently told The Forum that the Bison will opt out. Jay Elsen of Midco Sports reported that South Dakota is likely to opt out.
