I guess the record is still out and we won't know how things shake out until the season kicks off, but on paper I think most McNeese fans would say Clifton McDowell is that player.

Ever?...for us it's gotta be Aaron Stecker. He was at Wisconsin for two years, where he was set to be their #1 RB...until eventual Heisman winner Ron Dayne showed up. To get more playing time, Stecker transferred to WIU, where he ran for 3,799 yards in just two seasons, including a record-breaking 1,957 yards and 24 TDs in 1997. That rushing record would stand as a Gateway/Missouri Valley Conference record for 15 years until Zach Zenner showed up at SDSU. Stecker finished 2nd in Payton Award voting in 1997 and was named Gateway Offensive POY and Newcomer of the Year. He ended up playing for a year in NFL Europe where he was the league's offensive POY in 2000, then put in 10 years in the NFL with Tampa Bay, New Orleans, and Atlanta.

Not sure if this is suppose to be a historically themed post or current?

For the Mocs historically, I'd say it would hard to not say Jay Pearson from App State. Back to Back DPOY in the SoCon. Seems like the last guy to do that was my old prep school teammate Dexter Coakley (his were national POYs...but still) and he was at App State at the time. Of course MArio Greer in the 90s from clemson was solid, BJ Coleman from UT was helped to change the trajectory of the entire program, Chase Artoepeus from UCLA is looking to make some waves this year...

But if you are talking about the guy that got picked up this past off season, I'm hearing it is EDGE Joseph Bakhole out of ULM or WR Chris Domercant from Stonehill. I also here some pretty solid reports about RB Justus Durant from D2 Shorter.

Hard for me to say just 1 guy b/c IMO we killed it in the portal and with recruiting as well, but transfer IN wise I guess I have to put QB Robertson from Maine at the top of the list just b/c we had an unknown and even tho he may not be a superstar it sure solidifies the spot. But the 2 guys I am REALLY excited about are former Bucknell EDGE Tyler Alston and Sacred Heart linebacker Ernest Howard. Both standout on film.

I will also add that we got a transfer OL from Purdue named Andre Oben (former NY Giant OL Roman Oben's son) and Temple DB Alex Odom.

While we lost out star QB (Miami), DE Juncaj (Arkansas) and Amir Hall (Michigan) IMHO we did get some really good players from much bigger schools transfer in. I think Jared Verse has really helped UA by getting drafted in the first round. Top players are Myles Burkett a QB from Wisconsin, Seven McGee WR from Oregon State/Jackson State and a TE from Indiana (his name is escaping me) who has played in over 20 games I understand.

Biggest impact player was 2014 Indiana QB transfer Tre Roberson who was key to our 2014 Natty run ending in tough loss to Bison. He wound up with 1,029 rush yards and 3,229 pass yards, and easily led MVFC in total yards, as well as FCS. Also led MVFC in QB Rating, inching out Carson Wentz ... who inched out Tre in title game.

But the "best player" would probably be 2010 Wisconsin DT transfer Shelby Harris. Had 3 good years, but was dominant as DTs go in 2012 .. 13 games, 85 tackles, 16 TFLs, 7 sacks. He was 7th round draft pick in 2014 who eventually started every game for 4 seasons (2019-22), and has 71 total starts, and 115 total games played.

Spiders best transfer in might end up being Brandon Peskin K from Fordham. All conference PL

DB John Michael DiRoberto from Wofford
    TE Matt Robbert from Cornell

Both these guys are filling holes created by graduation and will likely be starters or certainly see time.

Richmond is not big in transfer market, but take a few each year to fill holes while they build from HS recruits.

For A&T, it was Maurice Hicks back in the early 00s. In the transfer portal era, Karon Prunty.
