View Full Version : Would you do this fantasy baseball trade?

I assume some of you play fantasy baseball on yahoo. I can't make up my mind so let's see what advice you can all give...
Would you trade...
My team: Estrada (arizona's catcher)/ ty wigginton 3B Rays / michael young (texas ss)/ john garland/ andy pettitte
for
Team 2: Victor Martinez (Cleveland's catcher)/Edgar Renteria/ Corey Blake (Clev. 3B) / Tony Armas (Nats pitcher)
Some qualms I have are Young is a machine and will likely heat up.. don't want to lose that potential.. Pettitte finishes strong but I'd deal him due to depth I have, Garland has weak numbers but wins, Estrada is hot.. can he stay that way? And Wigginton.. I think he will flame out..
Martinez is hot.. he'll probably keep it up, Renteria hits well but does he score enough? Corey Blake is hot and has a high BA... really uncharacteristc for him but he should level out to an average 3B, and Armas.. eh, ok numbers, more of a compensatory pitcher in the deal
Any input?

To me, the big names are Martinez and Young (both are on my team, BTW, as is Wiggington). Of the two, who would you rather have?
Personally, I think it is a bad trade, and I would not do it.

I'd rather keep Young because he is younger than Martinez and is always one of the top fantasy players... althouigh Martinez might put up some larger offensive numbers this year. Wigginton has a lower BA and I'm not sure he'd keep up the production. Tampa has bats and is a quality team believe it or not. It likely won't be one main batter on their team.
I was thinknig about the deal since I have been lacking in runs, HRs and RBIs..
my lineup is..
C Estrada Arizona (i just got him and dumped Bengie Molina)
1b Delgado
2b Lopez - cincy
3b Wigginton
ss young
OFs - Manny, Garrett Anderson (low #s), Raul Ibanez seattle
Utility - I rotate Luis Castillo -twins, and Youkilis - boston
the lovely DL... Cantu -tampa and Griffey.. i think that's my problem, these two guys can produce adn they are hurt
I don't know why this lineup is not putting up offense despite a very high AVG. I think I need to improve that outfield though.

Martinez has only been productive for a couple of years. Michael Young has been arguably the most consistent SS in the league over the past few years, but b/c he plays in Texas, he doesn't get as much as say GayRod or Jeter in NY

NO WAY you'd be giving up 2 top pitchers and only getting one sure fire offensive player in return.

Unless the guy you're trading with is willing to give you a good outfielder and you deal Anderson or something in place of one of those pitchers you're offering, that is not a good trade.

Absolutely do not give up 2 good pitchers, OR Michael Young.

My origonal proposition was Estrada/Luis Castilo/Anderson/Pettitte for Martinez and Casey Blake. I'd ahve Martinez catch, Blake in the outfield. I'd deal Pettitte because I have some depth and I need some offense. But that deal didn't go.
I actually put Garrett Anderson in place for Garland in one deal and that didn't go either. His outfield is Blake/Tracy -Arizona/ and Vernon Wells. So I'd have Blake in for Anderson... and dump Ibanez once Griffey comes back today or tmrw.

Both have had rough seasons. I know Pettitte comes on strong late, and Garland is iffy. And yeah I agree about Young.

Even before Cantu's injury, he was playing like his 50something range on yahoo

Not quite sure what that means...

Cantu's ranking on yahoo is like 54, meaning he is the 54th best player according to them. Even before his injury, he wasn't playing like it, his ranking was like 200 something. Got it?

Ah yes, I get the ranking system.
On another note I got the outfield... Wigginton/Garrett Anderson for Torri Hunter.
