No it isn't John Wooden although you have the right School. Al Scates of UCLA has just won his 19th National Championship in Men's volleyball. UCLA beat Penn State for their championship win. Granted California teams have an advantage in Men's volleyball but there will be no one to ever come close to Scates in winning National Championships in any sport. UCLA was 12-12 and 5-9 in conference midway through the season. Any coach who can turn a team around in this situation is the greatest.

The Anteaters have to be kicking themselves after winning their conference, only to lose to Penn State in five tough games in the semifinals on Thursday. They knew they could beat UCLA. Long Beach State gave UCLA a tussle in the conference tournament final and the 49ers probably think they could have easily won a national championship too. There was never any doubt that UCLA was going to beat host Penn State in the final. That had to be the most lopsided 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 match I've ever seen. UCLA was really on their game tonight. Crisp passing. The libero was a monster with his digs on defense and the setter did a great job of running the offense. Al Scates is the man. I heard that the Bruin volleyball players were trash-talking the basketball team because the hoopsters have only won 11 national championships.
By the way, how did the Gauchos do this year?

By the way, how did the Gauchos do this year? I used to cover a big volleyball tournament that all of these teams played each year at UCSB's Thunderdome when I worked for the LA Times.

I saw a stat last night, that to go along with his 19 national championships, he is now 25-0 in semifinal tournament games. That is crazy.

13-16 overall record. UCSB was the 8th seed in the MPSF playoffs, and lost in the first round to 7th-seeded UCLA.
But UCSB baseball has beaten the guttie ruins once this season! And they beat Fullerton yesterday!
