Man I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by how one sided this Furple/App game is. They've only seen this level of athleticism once this year in GaSo, and they got whooped. I expect our offense to be firing on all cylinders and our red zone D to be as stingy as it has been of late. Could be a long day for the Christian Knights.

I think most people not named Sean Taylor who watched the game would tell you the score was not indicative, blah blah blah. OF course I know it doesn't matterxlolx
The game was blown out when we stumbled on two FGs and had the interception at the half. AFter that GSU's lead was large and the game plan was thrown out the window ( well at least for us, it was thrown out the window).
same thing could happen here or not:D

Just wondering how was Samford and Coastal successful against you -running/passing?

Coastal ran is my recollection. But I think the Coastal game is one that we might have to throw out the window considering how they seem to be playing. Our first game under a new staff and new system. I have to admit considering some of the teams that have beat Coastal and by how much. This one has me scratching my head.
Samford was about 60% completions and probably threw more than 30 times and gained 250 yards. They did well. That is probably the one part of defense we have not seen a lot and it is difficult to gauge since we have played mostly running teams. In my opinion the key for Samford, was that they shut down the run and in the first half we didn't change the plan and we ran and ran and ran. I am not one to criticize a coaching staff that seems to be turning things around so I even hate to say it, but the first half of that game might have been different if we had opened it up a little more. I know we run to open up the pass, but sometimes well. The truth is, even though Forcier ended up throwing for 350 yards, it was in the second half and too late. Samford made us look bad.
Now to step out on the line a little further, We have some monster players (infact some of the players maybe they best in the conference at their position) but I don't think we are up to ASU's level yet. IT will take some years. The leveler here may be that the team has a different attitude or seems to. The defense plays aggressively. The offense stumbles around some but seems to come through in the clutch. Plus the game is not at the Rock. Will itb e enough. we will know saturday. As I said before, I think if we get in a shoot out, we could be in for a long day.
As a Georgia Southern Buddy of mine said, Furman needs to open it up early score quickly and then sit on the ball as much as possible to slow the game down. and as I said here is to putting this series back on a competitive basis where it belongs.

It has always amazed me how myopic App fans can be.
If I point out the fact that Wofford beat you like a drum I'll get "oh that was early on in the season, we're a different team now." If I point out the fact that Furman allowed six points to a Citadel team that hung 42 on your defense I'll get the same answer.
If App State runs away with this game I'll eat crow, but I simply don't see it happening.

The Paladins have been inconsistent, so a wide App win is certainly possible. That's not how Vegas will see it, so heads up for any App fans with sportsbook access. The spread will either be a pick 'em or very close to it.

Hey you are quite right on many fronts but I will tell you that up through the Wofford game we were a team in disarray and how we beat UTC is still a mystery - most of us thought we might finish 5-6 or 6-5 things looked bleak heading to the Citadel but the switch to Jamal Jackson has made the difference and while I think Furman can beat us without a doubt - we are playing sooooo much better and I think we would own Wofford now if we got to play them again - it just seems we are starting to gel in so many areas so I hope it continues - I am sure the reverse goes for Furman you should get better as the season moves along - I would say ASU and Furman fit this assessment - should be another great SoCon game on Saturday - someone will rise above and Furman needs it more so I give them the edge...

I think both teams have been a little inconsistant but both are definately playing their best football as of late. Apps wins over Citadel and GaSo should have been comfortable rather than nail-bitters but poor kicking game, bad coverage team breakdowns, turnovers, and falling for trick plays have led to lots of "cheap yards" and easy points that have kept opponents in games. The history of App/Furman games is usually tightly played with the games often decided in the last minute. I would not be surprised if that is the case again this year. Just hope Apps have the ball last if that's how things play out. If Cadet can't go the Apps will be small and paper thin at RB.

I read somewhere Cadet is day to day but if he was knocked unconscious, which is how it looked to me from the stands, there's no way he will be playing this Saturday. Maybe years ago with a conference championship up for grabs he would have played but with today's cautious approach to head trauma I'd bet he'll sit out at least one game. Very unfortunate for us but if you were watching the game Saturday in the stand or on TV you know it could have been much, much worse.

I guess that's my point. It's easy to see how much better your own team is improving after poor performances, but hard to give credit to another team doing the same thing.
All those other games won't matter. This game won't be a cake walk for either team.

He wasn't knocked out. Moving the whole time, etc. But still I figure he'll be held out.
Tommy Bowman report on injury:
http://www.journalnow.net/index.php/app_trail/entry/injury-update/
"Injury update
Running back Travaris Cadet, who sustained a head injury against Georgia Southern, is considered day-to-day. Offensive linemen Kendall Lamm and Sherman Holt, both of whom sat out the Georgia Southern game with ankle injuries, are questionable for Saturday’s game against Furman. Safety Patrick Blalock, who has been out with a thigh injury, is probable."

To be fair, if we are going to talk about The Citadel as a mutual opponent, it should also be mentioned that we hung 49 on a them while Furman only mustered 16 points. Let's not be myopic here. :D
In all seriousness though, I do agree with your point that an ASU blowout is quite unlikely. Should be a dog fight. Furman is fighting for their playoff lives and I expect they will play like it.

I would be careful if I was the Apps.....if Furman plays ball control, doesn't turn the ball over, and plays the tough defense they've been playing for for 4/5 of the season it'll be harder than they'll think. Furman's only let 2 teams score 30 on them, both losses; I'd venture to say that this Furman team has come a long way since that week one loss to coastal as well and App doesn't run the same offense as GSU. If it's a defensive struggle with both teams scoring in the 20s, my gut says that Furman has the advantage.

Both teams are playing for a lot. App is playing for a SoCon title... Furman for a playoff spot.
I think App has their swagger back after last week. As well as we played against Georgia Southern-- I think our defense is better suited towards an offense like Furman's. I think we win fairly comfortably.

I'm not saying Furman will win, but I don't think App will have the ball enough nor score quickly enough to put up a score in the 30s. Furman's defense has been very stingy most of the year and their offense rarely turns the ball over.

There's nothing sexy to the Furman offense. Defensive speed really doesn't matter. Scheme really doesn't matter. There's no "wheres the ball" with six guys running in different directions. The Paladins roll up their sleeves and run it right at the defensive front. Should suit any defense to know what's coming.
