Iowa Sate's backup RB signs with Griz.

6'0" 212 lbs. True Junior in 2006. Was a 3 star RB out of HS and the top RB in Iowa, #70 at his position. Offers from Oregon, North Carolina State, and Iowa State. Started two games as a Soph at ISU and gained 91 yards against Baylor and 104 yards against Missouri. Was suspended from the team during spring drills for a bar altercation but was reinstated. Hauck had a long visit with him and is satisfied that he is a good guy and like Rossum from ASU will be a valuable member of the team, a good student, and a good citizen of Missoula. If Hauck is satisfied with him most fans are. Now don't get down on the Griz, we have 4 transfers for 2006, hardly near the leaders, but more than we usually take. There have been so many blue chippers available this year and it's hard to turn them away.

A kid that gets in a couple fights when he's 18 and 20 doesn't deserve a second chance? We have given a second chance to 3 guys the last 5 years and they have all worked out fine.

Coleman was a third string back at ISU with fumbling issues that lost carries to a walk-on at the end of the season. He had a great opportunity to prove himself last year when the starter was hurt and didn't. He fumbled on the goaline when he tried to stretch out a TD from more than 1yard out. Had he played it smart and just went down, ISU would have scored on the next play and probably would have won the Big 12 North by not losing to BAYLOR.

He is also a liability in pass protection, which is essential in any pass oriented offense.

Maybe if someone could convince him to switch to defense that might change, but so far no one has been able to convince him to switch.
I don't know what the Griz have planned with him though.

He also was involved in a huge legal incident in his hometown of Iowa City during high school when he assaulted several police officers. So this is not an isolated incident.

MacCarney does not kick guys off the team unless they are a big problem, which this kid is.
