Chip Brown as always is right in the middle of the reailgnment discussion and OrangeBloods.com is backing up their earlier report about Notre Dame bringing its non-football sports to the Big 12.

Notre Dame is watching the Big East crumble around them and some reports of negative animosity by the Big East non-football (and perhaps football) schools upset that they will not commit pigskin to the Big East as well...

Big 12 more stable for the Irish? Perhaps so...

Orangebloods.com was first to report Notre Dame possibly moving its non-football sports to the Big 12 back in August.

We were nearly laughed off the internet when we reported it.

But the discussion of ND possibly moving its non-football sports to the Big 12 continues to heat up. The subject is actively being discussed by Big 12 administrators and the Irish.

The driving force in all of this has been the close relationship between Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick and Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds.

The Big 12 isn't exactly stable either. Notre Dame likes playing the eastern catholic schools in hoops, so I don't see them moving.

Tradition, scheduling benefits, and money. Mostly money however.

I really don't see the point in bringing in Notre Dame for non football sports. Their basketball team isn't anything special (the women's team is better right now) and the other sports just increase travel costs for no reason. It helps Notre Dame giving them a landing spot but does not benefit the Big XII at all.

There is no reason for a major FBS league like the Big XII to have a non football member. If I ran a league, I wouldn't want anybody that wasn't on board for everything, especially if they have a football team. I wish the OVC didn't have their non football teams.

I understand it is done out of necessity for some leagues. The WAC took in a few just to stay afloat. Hawaii is football only in the MWC but are a special case due to geography. The Sun Belt has one non football team left. A lot of FCS leagues may not have a choice. But for the Big XII it would be a joke. As long as Texas and Oklahoma stick around, the league will survive. Okie State does what big brother does and the others have no better options.

The Sun Belt has more than one non-football school in it...

Denver will join the MWC in 2012. South Alabama has a football team that is in transition to FBS, they will be a provisional football member next season and a full member in 2013.

Well then...I need to pay more attention!

I stopped reading after "the basketball team isn't that special."

You sir, need a lesson in College Basketball. That's where I will leave it.

They were last in the Sweet 16 in 2003. I'm not saying they have a terrible program, but that doesn't make them a national powerhouse.

They routinely have 20 game winning seasons and a long list of non- conference teams who want to play at South Bend. True they are not a Duke or Syracuse but just as legendary and can play with anyone. Notre Dame is Notre Dame period.

Not going anywhere...

NEW YORK – Notre Dame to the ACC? Notre Dame to the Big Ten? How about Notre Dame to the Big 12 or SEC?

It’s not going to happen, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said Thursday.

The Irish plan to remain an independent in football and are confident with the future of the Big East after the league introduced five new members Wednesday. The majority of Notre Dame’s non-football schools compete in the Big East, which allows Notre Dame to be an independent in football.

However, there had been some speculation that because of the league's uncertainty, Notre Dame might be forced to join another conference in football.

“We’re thrilled with the announcement of the Big East’s new members and we think it delivers on the (league’s) stability,” Swarbrick told CBSSports.com. “It’s great news for the Big East and it’s a great home for us for most of our sports.”
