Sam Houston State is off to its best start since 1964. The Bearkats are 7-0 for just the third time in the school's 97 football seasons. The 1956 team went 10-0 for the school's only unbeaten and untied squad and the 1964 team went 8-0 before suffering a loss to Sul Ross. This year's Bearkat team is 4-0 in conference action thanks to wins over Central Arkansas, Stephen F. Austin, Nicholls State and McNeese State, where it won for just the fourth time and just the second time as a Division I school last week.
