View Full Version : Playoffs? Craziest scenarios thread!

With all of the playoffs talk going on, I figured I might as well be the one to drive the conversation off of the cliff (feel free to move to smack if you think it's more appropriate over there). However, what is everybodies most far fetched playoff qualifying scenario going into these final weeks? xthumbsupx

EWU winning out.

Could be one in the NEC if either Monmouth or Sacred Heart win out they would get the auto bid.

This board will probably explode if the OVC gets two bids this year....

1) Delaware wins out and has everything fall exactly in place and gets the autobid for the CAA. Only two other CAA teams get to seven D1 wins to be considered.

2) Presbyterian copies everything they saw from the Georgia Southern game and rolls off four straight wins, capturing the Big South.

3) Harvard gets bored and lets the committee know sure, they'll accept an invite.

4) YSU goes on a tear and winds up beating both UNI and NDSU (on the road) in consecutive weeks, and five valley teams get in the playoffs.

5) Duquesne wins out and the NEC get two bids

6) And least likely of all: Samford manages to get to the seven D1 wins necessary to be included in the playoffs - and easily gets an invite - after upending Auburn the last weekend.

Presbyterian is on the road the next two weeks so its gonna be tough to get wins @ Liberty and @ CCU (Liberty has won the last two meetings in Lynchburg by a combined 103-33 score)

Yes, hence in the "crazy" thread. :)

Like: GSU loses all four remaining games (at App, vs. The Citadel, at Wofford and at Alabama), and completely misses the playoffs.

Here's one...NDSU loses big to UNI and in the hangover loses their next two games, finishes 8-3 and has to go on the road and loses in the first round

What's REALLY crazy is that could TOTALLY happen

Alabama is an automatic loss.

App State and Wofford are essentially toss up games...

While we SHOULD be favored over the Citadel at home...you never know...they can be sneaky good sometimes...depends on when you catch them.

which is WHYYYYYY you NEVER schedule DII games if you can help it...we should already have 7 DI wins...

1. Weber State wins out while Montana State falls apart and loses out. The Bobcats miss the boat while Weber barely hangs on.
2. Although the conference can only boast one non-conference win against a more than 2 win team, the OVC steals 3 bids after the CAA continues to collapse on each other.
3. The Northeast Conference turns into bizarro world and the bottom half wins out. Wagner finishes 5-6 but comes away with the automatic bid.
4. Central Arkansas visits the FCS playoffs for the first time with the Southland auto-bid thanks to a Sam Houston collapse.
5. The Selection Committee gets tired of all the teams on the win/loss bubble and inserts DII powers Minnesota Duluth & Northwest Missouri St., claiming them as representatives from the Missouri Valley.

Even better - Georgetown wins out, earns the PL autobid, and keeps the Brown Panties completely out of the playoffs. That would be perfect.

Then Georgetown could refuse to allow any broadcast of playoff games.

Furman finishes at 7-4 and with 4 other SoCon teams in the playoffs gets left out. Then they get a call from the "Gallo Wine and Cheeze Bowl" and play in that FBS bowl game because there isn't another 6 win FBS team left to fill all the slots.

Then they beat Middle Tennessee State 41-7 in front of 11K fans on December 23rd.

How about this:

North Dakota somehow makes the playoffs (winning out, rules are waived, etc), and goes on an absolute tear, making it all the way to the championship game.

NDSU, meanwhile, (less surprisingly), manages to dominate in the other half of the bracket.

UND meets NDSU in the championship game, but the coaches make a pre-game announcement that they will not play the game and merely share the national championship on behalf of the state of North Dakota.

Half of UM's defense is arrested and incarcerated for repeateadly yelling "DON'T TAZE ME BRO!!" outside the fizzoula police station, and are forced to forfeit the rest of the season, and hence miss the playoffs for the SECOND consecutive year.
