Overall I like the poll. It looks alot like my ballot. :D

Wow. Towson is still underrated. They should be ahead of JMU at this point. 4-0 against the AGS Top 25. Yes, they won on a miracle at ODU. But JMU had several miracles in 2008. That's part of having a great season, the ball has to bounce your way. I'm not outraged at these results, just think that many are not noticing Towson, and they should be.

1 Georgia Southern Eagles 2635 81
2 North Dakota State Bison 2473 13
3 Northern Iowa Panthers 2464 9
4 Montana State Bobcats 2337 2
I think every credible poll should have those 4 teams in the top 4
5 Sam Houston State Bearkats 2205 1
6 Maine Black Bears 2124
7 Lehigh Mountain Hawks 1934
8 Appalachian State Mountaineers 1907
9 James Madison Dukes 1704
10 Towson Tigers 1647

I think Wofford is a little low, but understandable after the loss. I think these should be the next 7 teams regardless of order.
12 Montana Grizzlies 1592
13 New Hampshire Wildcats 1545
14 Jacksonville State Gamecocks 1170

So let's run this back...
You screwed up.
Then when someone pointed it out, you got mad that no one told you that you screwed up.
Then when someone pointed out that they did tell you that you screwed up, you got mad that you weren't given enough time.
Then when they pointed out they gave you ten hours to type five words, "Oops, I meant the Bison", you get mad that you weren't included and given a participation trophy anyway.
This is why parents need to stop lying to their kids and telling them that they're special and can be anything they want in life as their putting on the bicycle helmet to send them on the short bus.

A poll should not be eliminated because the operators do not agree. Otherwise, that would completely undermine the permise of asking people for their opinion.

Just went and looked and it was counted. This is not an easy task and if we don't have the two way street with the voter it makes it a whole lot tougher.
FWIW I do believe in voters having their say and I do not like someone/anyone putting their opinion on things over the voters if they have been contacted and respond that they did consider what was brought up to them and they want to stay with their ballot.
It's when I know that a guy doesn't want what he put on the ballot but can't get confirmation that it was a slip up is the problem. I sit here and know that you don't want that, I know you want NDSU, but I can't change it without your approval because that also screams lack of integrity to just change someone's ballot...even if I know.
So what would you do if that was the rock & hard place you were sitting at?
Over 100 ballots, and not everything is caught every time and I got guys like Twentysix griping that he was asked a question last week on one that was caught.

There is an easy solution to your aggravation. You could not submit a poll, and thus they would have nothing to pm you about. And you also don't have to remember which North Dakota team is a 4-3 team transitioning to DI and an undefeated 7-0 full fledged D-I team.

I don't understand why anyone is upset at being asked about their ballot. There's no harm in checking with someone to make sure they didn't make a mistake. Don't we all agree that more questions should be asked about the ballots submitted in the Coach's poll since that truly is a "frickin joke"?

Apparent egregious errors I agree. However, something that seems very objective, and obviosuly is, shouldn't be. Why should i have to explain myself in that situation? If i didn't respond would last weeks ballot have been tossed out?

Expected this from someone, another shot at our strength of schedule. The above may be true, I would agree, but this does get rather old. Lehigh is playing well, beating the snot out of who they are supposed to beat, beat a ranked Liberty squad, and lost to a UNH team in OT that is very solid. They've done just about everything expected of them.
Who is Delaware's signature win to keep them alive in the poll? ODU? Sure, but aside from that, you have not taken care of business week in, week out.
That being said, another one and out in the playoffs gives posters such as this all the ammo necessary for similar comments for seasons to come. A playoff win like last year, maybe a round deeper this year would give us some more juice. Time will tell, and I am optimistic.

the biggerst question is what is a lowly Delaware, with 4 losses, even doing in the top 25.
Shouldn't they be ranked at about #40?
#40 might be a little harsh, but I agree that UD should not be in the Top 25. (even though they have beat a higher-ranked team in it than Lehigh has...<cough><cough>)
But Why do all Lehigh fans deflect the issue toward UD instead of addressing the inconsistency between Lehigh and UNH?
Lehigh has played 2 teams from this Top 25 list - neither of which is in the Top 10 - and is 1-1 against them. Why does Lehigh deserve to be in the Top 10?

But Why do all Lehigh fans deflect the issue toward UD instead of addressing the inconsistency between Lehigh and UNH?
Lehigh has played 2 teams from this Top 25 list - neither of which is in the Top 10 - and is 1-1 against them. Why does Lehigh deserve to be in the Top 10?
You do realize that 7/10ths of the current AGS poll have played 2 Top 25 teams?

I don't understand why anyone is upset at being asked about their ballot. There's no harm in checking with someone to make sure they didn't make a mistake. Don't we all agree that more questions should be asked about the ballots submitted in the Coach's poll since that truly is a "frickin joke"?
Glad you see that molly. Nobody doing the poll is trying to offend by asking anyone their reasoning on a particular matter. It helps us understand the thinking and can help us see that we may have a problem with the way we are looking at things. It's not like the pm's are sent to chastise anyone on a vote it's to have a discussion and get information.
If anyone is offended by that then I really can't help them out.

the bigger question is what's up with those 4 losses by Delaware
will Delaware end up with a less than .500 season this year?
regarding the UNH v. Lehigh ranking, I guess you forgot to read this post:
http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?97783-AGS-Top-25-Week-8-Results&p=1705223&viewfull=1#post1705223
furthermore, lets take a look at what UNH has done since the Lehigh game:
barely beat unranked Richmond and unranked Holy Cross by 2 and 7 points. Beat lowly Villanova.
Get killed by 4-loss W&M and barely beat Massachusetts by 6 points.....
oops!

Please tell me how you justify Lehigh ranked above UNH? Forget that I'm a Hen fan and your ad hominem comebacks.
Personally, I would welcome Lehigh on our schedule in place of WCUPA and so would 99.9% of Hen fans.
Teams change over the season and the polls should reflect this. You should not base any ranking based on single games or slotting teams. Much less a single game that was in OT with a huge momentum swing on an absolutely ridiculous call. Let's face it teams are fairly close in talent and the polls to reward the concept of just win. Thank god this level has the playoffs to make it all mute. That said, why focus on who should up one or down one. They both have a lot of winning to do to make sure they are in. In my view LU must win out and UNH will be at risk with more than one more loss.
I have a ton of respect for DU and CAA, just asking for a little in return. One of the greatest coaching moves I ever saw was Tubby at Lehigh in 1982' down 19-17 with 10 secs left he kicks a 30yd fg. Bad snap and Delaware scrambles for an incomplete pass. Huge upset for a mediocre Lehigh team over a #2 ranked Delaware, Nope, it was third down. Easy FG and a 20-19 win for DU

A good idea FB and if I can get it done this week I will try to do so. I really thought having the team names listed would help that out and there have been many fewer mistakes in recent weeks and this one WAS caught just not corrected.

HensRock, I appreciate you wanting to play us rather playing annually than West Chester. It helps our strength of schedule to have CAA teams as our OCC, given the historically marginal national acclaim our league generates. Playing UNH and 'Nova last year was a good example of where I'd like us to be, as a 9 and 2 record with loses to two perennial CAA contenders and a PL championship is sometimes best we can do (short of beating them, obviously) to to earn respect in polls, chatrooms, blogs, news, etc.
That being said, even though I love our ranking, realize fully our program's and scheduling 'shortcomings', and since we lost head to head to UNH, would agree they should probably be ahead of us. People have different interpretations of each team's resume, and it seems to be reflected in the AGS poll.

According to this criteria, App State should be in the lower reaches of the Top 25 at best since they haven't beaten any ranked teams and padded their schedule with North Carolina A&T and Savannah State. Also, they lost to Wofford, putting them - where exactly?
There are boatloads of others. Maine has beaten one current Top 25 team. SHSU has beaten none. Georgia Southern? None. NDSU? None. UNI? None.
Given the criteria you yourself are forwarding, you should be ranking Lehigh at No. 2 or No. 3.

How is Montana too high on bj's ballot, given that he somehow omitted them from both the top 25 and Just on the Outside lists??? Unless you are referring to MSU and #4 is where most people seem to have them.
bj has this happen quite a bit. He'll have a team on his ballot one week and be fairly well ranked and then they do a disappearing act the next. I don't know how it's possible but it is pure magic. He is my own AGS David Copperfield.xlolx
I love it every time he posts his ballot cuz he never goes a week without controversy but never ducks it.

Let's just fix up all the misinformation in your first post, and replace it them with FACTS. There, that's better.
And don't throw me that line of bullcrap that "close FBS losses" and even NDSU's win over 1-6 Minnesota is deserving of some sort of lifetime achievement award.
So, let's see. By your own criteria, Lehigh should be No. 3, right behind Maine and perhaps behind Wofford. After all, they beat the No. 16 team of the country, which is a more impressive achievement than what all of these other teams have been able to accomplish.
OK. Maybe #4, behind Delaware, who beat the #15 team. xlolx No, Not my criteria.
And for the record, I never said NDSU has no ranked wins, you did. And that's wrong too because they beat Ill. State.
So what "misinformation" is in my post? YOUR first post was loaded with misinformation. I was merely setting the record straight:
Does Maine have 1 or 2 wins over currently ranked teams?
Does UNI have 0 or 1 win over currently ranked teams?
Does NDSU have 0 or 1 win over currently ranked teams?
But I will say that your original post raised a valid point about App State, and one which I actually agree with. That's why in my ballot I have App State ranked lower than most others - because of the weak schedule. But I still have them ranked above Lehigh.

say, how about those 4 losses so far?
think that figure might get up to 7 losses?

Yet Lehigh has beaten a ranked team, but App has not?
And Lehigh's ranked win over No. 16 is better than the resume of all the other teams you mention, when they ranked wins are < 16 in the current poll?
To be fair, I was wrong. Now I see 5-3 Illinois State is ranked, something that completely eluded me since there is no way on God's Green Earth that this team that lost to Eastern Illinois, Youngstown and NDSU should be ranked in any poll. I honestly did not have them on my radar at all! I did have Indiana State on there, but not the Redbirds.
It amazes me that folks could put Illinois State in their Top 25, yet completely ignore 5-1 Harvard or 6-1 Alabama State.

Exactly! He stated he meant for us to be #5. That would give us 21 more points, and put us over them because we are only behind them by 9. However, there was the guy who had UND at 4 when he meant NDSU so that ends up putting them 10 points ahead of us anyways.

I threw Illinois State in near the bottom of my poll. At this point they have a winning record in one of the tougher conferences, a winning record overall, and quality wins vs. Indiana State and USD. I also ranked Harvard.
Alabama State is tricky... good record in conference, but arguably the weakest conference in the FCS (hard to tell who would prevail in a SWAC vs. PFL throwdown).

Right around #20 for me as well. Missed that they had 2 FBS losses thrown in to their record.
I mean, I think some of the voters are just getting lazy by putting in the name brands at 4-4 or worse....are we rewarding mediocrity? I even went as far as rewarding a not so impressive AQ league team that has a 6-2 record that didn't even make the top 40....

I had to vote from my phone this week and made an error. Probably got thrown out. With all the losses in the middle it was hard to sort out.
1. GSU
2. UNI
3. Maine
4. North Dakota State
5. Montana State
6. Sam Houston State
7. Towson
(any of the above could be moved around and I wouldn't argue)
8. James Madison
9. New Hampshire
10. Wofford
11. Lehigh
12. App St
(Any of the above could be switched and I wouldn't argue)
13. Montana
14. Old Dominion
15. Liberty
16. UT-Chat
17. Richmond (meant to put them here. Losing by one to Maine isn't cause for a drop IMO)
18. Sac St (meant to drop them out. Not sure what happened? Maybe meant to place someone else here?)
19. W&M (loss to higher ranked team, a lot of teams lost, not sure who to rank instead.)
20. Indiana State (not sure where to place them, a lot of team lost)
21. Delaware (lost, but a lot of teams lost, not sure who to rank instead.)
22. Cal Poly
23. EWU
24. Portland State
25. Illinois State
I'm not about to rank Alabama State, Harvard, or Brown. I've looked at them the past 3 weeks, and regardless of record, any of these teams would beat them home, away, or neutral.
Albany, UCA, and South Dakota were close.

Because that game was a TIE at best for UNH. Lehigh's offense rolled.
UNH won the game on the road; the game probably doesn't get to OT were it not the heinous pick call called late in the 4th. God, that was brutal.
Did Lehigh get victimized by a bad call? Yes. Did they have the ball to tie/win? Yes.
That said, Lehigh is a good team; they just don't have the resume of some of the other teams, but they do belong in the top 10, IMO. Nice win over Liberty, close loss to UNH, undefeated otherwise. Still don't understand why they're ahead of UNH, who have 1 FCS loss to W&M, though UNH belongs behind Towson and Maine, possibly JMU as well.

PantherRob is right...Lehigh comes from a weaker conference so the Mountain Hawks' record isnt as impressive. If the conference affiliations were reversed and the results the same, then Im sure there would be a greater respect level for Lehigh (though of course the same cant be said for you my friend)

Whether right or wrong, here is my rationale. Lehigh-UNH are obviously splitting hairs based on an OT shootout. That's maybe 1 ranking spot, and maybe 2 since it was at Lehigh. So when that happened, I believe I had something like UNH 6, Lehigh 8. Watching UNH lose to a W&M that I in person watched my very mediocre at best Blue Hens BLANK, caused a drop for UNH to about 12. I have not moved Lehigh, nor will I from that 8 spot. If UNH keeps winning I would have them back in front of Lehigh. Lehigh has played their "marquee games" and to me is a team that will give somebody fits in a quarterfinal, which is exactly what the #8 team in the country should do.

bj, so when you talk about conference schedule, you DO understand that we are talking about today's rankings and as of today, Lehigh has only played a couple of conference games. A look at the non-conference games played by Lehigh to date, however, does show extremely weak teams such as Liberty. Maybe Lehigh should work on getting stronger teams for their non-conference play.
thanks for pointing this out
We get that you beat Liberty. By 3. At home. It is a good OOC win, we all recognize that. Lehigh also lost to UNH. In OT. Again at home. Their remaining OOC schedule does consist of weak teams (Monmouth, Princeton and Yale). So yes, if they want to mitigate the weak SoS caused by playing in weaker conference, they should work on getting stronger teams for their non-conference play. Or beat the good ones they do schedule.
