Sagarins Ranking are pretty good. Of course they are based on how each team has played this season so far and disregards many factors such as new injuries, players getting off the injury list, etc. A team one week may not be the same the next. Additionally, his "rankings" are a combination of his "ELO Chess" ratings and his "Predictor" ratings. The ELO-Chess" ratings are strictly based on "Win - Loss", inaccurate in my opinion, while the "Predictor" ratings are based on exactly what the team does week by week and the strength of the teams schedule. Because of that, I prefer his "Predictor" ratings. Enough said ... here they are ...
1. Wofford
2. Geo. Southern (what the heck is the word "The" doing proceeding the name?)
3. North Dakota State
4. Northern Iowa
5. Chatanooga
6. Sam Houston Institute of Technology
7. Harvard
8. Liberty
9. Montana State
10. Lehigh
11. Maine
12. App. State
13. Southern Utah
14. Cal Poly
15. Furman
16. Ill. State
17. Montana
18. Brown
19. Weber State
20. Northwestern State
21. North Dakota
22. Towson
23. Indiana State
24. Eastern Washington
25. James Madison
I'm sure this list is fairly contraversial. I didn't make it up. Attack Sagarin if you must!

The idea that Wofford has played the toughest schedule is laughable. The sagarin ratings are utterly worthless.

I'm pretty sure that's not what it says but I could be wrong

Wofford has Clemson factored in their number. I'm not sure, but I don't think the FBS factor shows up till the team plays them. For instance, GSU was #46 last week and #56 this week. They played a weeker opponent and got hit for it. The GSU number will go off the chart if they win at App State and Wofford. The Alabama factor will move them up as well, win or lose.

Wofford has the highest SoS because: (a) they played Clemson and (b) their non-D1 game did not count for anything (negative or positive) for Sagarin's purposes.

That's all it takes? What about the rest of their schedule?

Wofford is still #2 after losing last week to Furman? xlolx

He might be making a reference to Georgia State, who is also "GSU."
But they suck... Moving on! :D

Heads up guys- if anyone here can consistently outsmart the Sagarin 'predictor' metric, then you need to find a reliable sportsbook and get to work. Almost all FCS lines (harder to get action) and most FBS lines closely mirror that statistic.

Sagarin also has HC #133 ahead of BC #137....while I wish this was true, BC could name their score against us this year.

Not after the loss to Cal Poly. Yes, Darell. Even after the loss to Cal Poly, North Dakota is rated. Did you notice that the victory was only by 4 points? Predictor ratings are based on score differences only. If Poly had beaten you by 14 points, you might have dropped out of the 25. They did not.

So is this an acurate reading on UND? I didn't even vote for them in the polls.

So is this an acurate reading on UND? I didn't even vote for them in the polls. I haven't enough knowledge on most of the FCS to vote, rarely seeing any of the eastern teams, and I don't trust others who don't see the majority of the schools, either. But I am a number cruncher (I have my degrees in Mathematics) and I do give a certain amount of trust to those who have developed decent software to rate, and who accurately enter each week the numbers that are necessary to rate. As far as I know, Sagarin's software has been proven to produce results as good or better than most of the other computer rating programs.

The problem I have with Sagarin and others is the pre-season SOS. They say it starts with bias, but the bias is eliminated as the season progresses. I don't buy it. There is no way the Ivy teams should ever get above 175. Most of the OOC they play are against NEC and Patriot teams, which means they have the third or fourth weakest schedule in DI every year. Why should the Ivy be considered any better than the Pioneer outside of what they were 60-80 years ago?
DISCLAIMER: I realize if the Ivy's wanted to compete with the BCS (Scholarships and academic exceptions), they could, because money isn't a factor.

Sagarin's formula is solid. The top couple Ivies are usually pretty good- Harvard particularly has a very solid program.

From what I hear about the Ivies, they can recruit good players. For instance, many players could have offers from BCS teams, of course that's a very blunt way to put it and I don't know too much, but they are solid at the top of the Ivy league. Too bad they won't compete in the playoffs or against quality FCS competition

I agree. The computers love the Ivy's. Their SoS is inflated but the teams who make up that schedule do not get the same benefit.

Overstatement YT. There are rare occasions where kids turn down BCS offers to go Ivy, but that is rare. They do recruit many kids who chose the Ivy's over lower FBS and high FCS squads, but they don't have the complete teams. There are players here and there that are strong. And from top to bottom the Ivy has a huge drop off.

There are always a handful of FBS transfers on Ivy League rosters. See: Patrick Witt, Yale (Nebraska). Harvard's quarterback for part of last year, Andrew Hatch, began his career at LSU, and actually started a few games there.
