(on video, hear the whistle and then the hit..good call)...(the refs havent been that good though to be honest..but the obvious calls, except the false start by UNI have been called). If NDSU loses, they will complain of the refs calls...I can see both ways..but if u see the video..and replay...you'd see justification.

I never did hear the whistle on the fumble in the endzone tho...that UNI was returning for a TD.

Agreed. Given that a INT on the last drive stopped a potential tying drive, calling them overrated at 3 means that NDSU should drop also, due to letting an overrated team play to the last possession on your own field.

I'm not really sure what you mean by this. Granted I got a cold today, so I'm taking cold med and am drinking (it's football Saturday, screw warning labels :)), so maybe I missed what you meant. I don't think either team is overrated, personally. The game was a title bout and went down to the wire. Obviously the students at the game can be some of the more exuberant, least educated fans, so I'm not saying the Bison fanbase agrees with them. I have a ton of respect for NDSU, especially after last year :(

Oh Stop. They lost. For the first time since NDSU joined the conference. Act like you have done that before.

All I have ever heard from the UNI fans is how NDSU doesn't belong, doesn't matter, is insignificant nationally. This from a school that is one bad bake sale away from rolling up the sidewalks.

NDSU went to Division I because they have the resources, student body, and regional significance to do so and what have they done since? Prove time and time again that they belong there. (Note I'm not a We and Us kind of guy even though I graduated from NDSU). I was born and raised in Fargo and I wouldn't go back to Cedar Falls/Waterloo on a court order.

Agree 100% that the chant has 0 to do with the team or the fanbase as a whole. The student sections at ANY field are drunken semi-fans. Get a few people going next thing you know the whole section is chanting and have no idea why. I don't look forward to playing EITHER team in the playoffs. Congrats to the Bison. It was a hard fought game that we just came out on the wrong end of.

As I had said earlier I thought it would come down to the trenches, turnovers, and special teams. Sure enough. NDSU dominated us on the line both offensively and defensively. And we made 3 costly turnovers. I knew it was gonna be a long day, when we had what seemed like a sure TD only for the kid to get eaten by the turf monster. If that doesn't make the not top 10 I don't know what will.

Tough loss, but still 3 games left gotta get back on track. Again congrats to the Bison and would love to see you again in the Playoffs. Only preferably on a field that is not concrete. ;)

The major problem with the turf is that the Fargodome is a multi-purpose arena that requires quick turnaround. Right now Field Turf doesn't have the "roll-out" technology to accomplish this. I agree but the dome is paid for by the taxpayers of Fargo who need it for much more than Bison games.

The requirement from the Fargodome management is a single piece roll out, sections are too time consuming for the tight time frames they use to do turnarounds.

Congratulations to UNI on a well-played game. Bison just played better. 8-0 and it feels fantastic. Wasn't a fan of the chippyness by both teams but that'll happen, glad no one got unnecessarily injured in the scrum that broke out. O-line deserves huge credit for redeeming themselves after giving up 11 sacks last season, and the RBs came with some fire and made some huge plays. I would trust Brock Jensen to throw my infant son on third down (if I had an infant son, that is). Guy is the definition of ice in the backfield.

To those still talking crap about NDSU despite a statement win that puts us in the driver's seat, keep it coming. We handled it for four years, we can certainly handle it now.

YSU and ISUr will both beat UNI. 7-4.. no playoffs.

You know how eerily similar to our 2009 season that would make it?

Lose first game of the year to instate FBS by 1. (2009 Iowa 2011 Iowa State)
Take care of business until losing to a good conference opponent. (2009 SIU 2011 NDSU)
Lose second in a row to a team we probably shouldn't lose to (2009 SDSU 2011 YSU) (And yes I know SDSU made the playoffs that year, but still don't think we should have lost to them)
Lose last game of the year to Illinois State...

difference is ISUr wasnt good that year...middle pack...they are in the top half this year at least...and on fire really...

This was a great game, played by two great teams. I wouldn't be shocked if we see each other again...hopefully your QB is back at full strength next week. I apologize for how pathetic our turf is.

That was a very good game. Could have gone either way although I really thought the Bison were really close to putting UNI away in the 2nd quarter. Hopefully Rennie comes back healthy and can lead UNI the rest of the way and we can do it again in a couple of months with a trip to Texas on the line. That would be a very fun game.

In the interests of getting back to the game discussion, some observations:

-Surprised how ineffective UNI's running game was. Take away Rennie's 24-yard run before the half and I don't think UNI had what you can term a significant running play in the entire game. Certainly not in the second half. NDSU appeared to make UNI a one-dimensional team, especially when Rennie went out, which is understandable.

-Would it be a stretch to say NDSU's Marcus Williams is the FCS version of Darrelle Revis? The Panthers didn't bother hardly throwing in his direction, and Sinkfield caught only 2 balls for 14 yards in the entire game. Both teams threw more towards the backs and TE's a LOT in this game, a lot of mid-range passing.

-Based on what I saw of the numbers after the game, I was surprised NDSU didn't run for more yardage. While I never got the feeling UNI could consistently stop the run during the game, they didn't give up any long runs either.

-I heard a lot of people say special teams would make the difference in this game. I think it did to a certain extent, although not maybe in the way most people thought. On three separate occasions during the game, UNI punted from inside NDSU territory. In all three instances, UNI's Kyle Bernard kicked the ball out of the endzone for touchbacks. So even though UNI moved the ball into NDSU territory multiple times, not only did they not get any points, but not much "flipping" of field position, either.

The battle was at the O-line and the Bison easily won this battle. I was also impressed by #22 as a running back. This is the second week in a row that our O-line has failed to show up at a game. Watching an offensive lineman jog down the field not blocking a soul is embarrassing for many. Didn't want to see the starting QB get hurt, but I think the back-up is actually better. He moved the team down the field as a freshman, quick decisions, quick release.

Congratulations to the Bison you deserved the win, but what is that cow pie in the middle of the field?

...To those still talking crap about NDSU despite a statement win that puts us in the driver's seat, keep it coming. We handled it for four years, we can certainly handle it now.

Hard to believe, but it happens. NDSU has and still does have a good program. You don't go out and beat a FBS team and grab a top 25 ranking year after year. They are a good addition to a very strong conference.

That is, unfortunately what my (former) city fathers thought was a great idea for a logo for the Fargodome. They came up with it 20 years ago and I thought it looked stupid then, it now only looks stupid and dated now. I hope when the new turf comes that they get an ostentatious Bison logo like the Panther one at the UNIdome.

The main catch with the logo is that it is the Fargodome, not the NDSU dome. In Cedar Falls, they have the UNI dome, therefore a Panther logo is understandable. NDSU football games are simply one of the many things hosted by the Fargodome. I can't see them straying away from having a Fargodome logo in the middle of the field anytime soon.

As does the UNI-Dome. It holds not only the Panther games, but the high school playoffs, and non football related it holds indoor track, wrestling (nationals!!), many festivals, and at one time basketball. It is the same as the FargoDome in terms of an all-purpose facility.

Now that I've had a few hours to get my vocal cords back and the ringing out of my ears a few thoughts I have:

1) I won't be modest about this, the crowd was incredible! One of the guys in the pressbox had a decibel meter and we maxed it out at 107db twice. That's NFL caliber loud. I wish every game had that atmosphere but for this one game is was truly a blast to be there and be part of it.

2) NDSU's O-line played heroic. Brock had time to throw and I was impressed with the amount of space NDSU had running right at the all-american middle of the UNI defense. We all know that Boothby and Fort are studs so to see that type of space opened up by the Rams was impressive.

3) Jensen once again was a manchild. 22-25 against one of the best defenses in the country is just..... wow!

4) I was really impressed with UNI's young RB Johnson. He didn't have much room on the ground but he was a huge threat catching passes out of the backfield. He knows how to set up blocks on the screen plays and is shifty and powerful in the open field.

5) I hope Rennie can come back ASAP, when you're not rooting against him he's fun to watch. I was a little preplexed by the fact that UNI kept calling empty backfield sets when it was clear that Rennie was hobbled and NDSU's D-line was getting hits on him consistently. Lanpher looked decent but some of his passes floated and he obviously isn't the running threat that Rennie is.

Overall a solid game by both teams. The fumble recovery TD was the game changer, without that things would've gotten too close for comfort for the Bison. I wouldn't mind seeing UNI in the playoffs again but I won't be disappointed if we don't, they're still a top 5 team in my book even if the polls don't show that on Monday.

I'll believe that when I see it.

Fargodome management considers NDSU football a nuisance. Hence why they insist on wringing every last penny out of the Magic Carpet "investment" before begrudgingly replacing the 1980's style turf with the new space age stuff that's been around since the late 90's.

I agree that the fumble for TD was a big game changer. I also felt the Holloway fumble at the 1 yrd line resulting in a touchback and UNI ball at the 20 was a big play also. Had we scored there, UNI would have had an even bigger hill to climb.

NW MN- I thought the same thing in the stadium, but after watching the TV coverage, there is a very definitive replay that shows Holloway's fumble went right through the referee's legs (TV guy even makes a "five-hole" joke) and hits the pylon, which wobbles once the ball hits it. I believe that was the correct call.

We already know which team was better yesterday but have no idea how UNI stacks up against Montana State or SHSU on another day. I'm going to give some of those other teams the benefit of the doubt about their inferiority, at least until they lose, and leave the #2 slot uncommitted for now. There are still a few weeks left until seeding, and even though the #1 ranked team -never- loses, there is time for a couple of other teams to prove their worthiness for #2, don't you think?

Built by the City of Fargo - they can do as they see fit. If NDSU wanted new carpet so badly - they could give the city a couple million and I am sure that they would replace the turf. Actually your comment is kind of funny because most of the time it seems like NDSU thinks the City of Fargo is a nuisance.

You truly have no clue as usual. The turf at the dome is barely 10 years old, they wanted to get its full useful life and they wanted to replace it with a similar roll-up system which didn't come on-line until recently when the St. Louis Rams installed in their facility.

The dome is completely on board with new turf and enhancements to the tailgate lot. NDSU is a solid and consistent revenue generator for the dome, NDSU football is appreciated and in no way viewed as a nuisance.

Built by the city of Fargo, only because of NDSU football. They fight every improvement and drag their feet implementing them.

I'm hopeful the next stadium will be built solely by NDSU on NDSU property (on the R lot would be good) and they can tell the city good luck keeping the Dome in the black without the Bison.

Since the Dome cannot have permanent field turf with a cover, they were kind of stuck with the current crap. Now that there is a field turf that can roll up and utilize the removal system the dome has(although it will need some modifications) they will replace the turf. The dome has a ton of money tucked away but they are going to be good stewards of the money the public gave them.

If you think it only came from the student section, you're mistaken.

Anyway.....I was expecting the best football environment I've ever been too and was disapointed. Tailgating was good, but it was no different than UNI except NDSU keeps it all in 1 lot, UNI has it all over the area. If UNI confined it all to 1 lot it would be very similar. For being SRO, blah blah blah, there was well over 1,000 blue seats visible on the East side and South side. I couldn't see the west or North sides that well but will assume it was similar. It wasn't as loud as I expected either....decent place to watch a game though.

Most of the fans were real cool....some were exactly as I thought they'd be....

Also, yes the dome does host concerts, expos, etc.... However, the number of concerts it hosts has gone down thanks to the McLeod Center and Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center being open....

Really? They had a sound meter at the game and recorded a peak volume of 108 decibels - for comparison purposes, the Metrodome hit 115 decibels when the Twins won the World Series in 87 with a much larger crowd. That's about as loud of a game as you're going to get at the FCS level.

I've seen quite a few games and the Fargodome is one of the loudest venues. I didn't get the chance to make it to this game, but from people I talked to who went it was about as loud as the last second win over SHSU in 2007, which was an absolute blast.

So he has a bit of a resume. Not much playing time next year. Could be that he is the backup again next year, as there is a FR red shirting from Jenks OK that had crazy numbers (http://www.unipanthers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=626869&SPID=90703&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=26200&ATCLID=205235690&Q_SEASON=2011) in HS.

Clenz, are you sure you were at the game? 1,000 empty seats? was that during halftime?? Not loud? Trust me ask your coach and players on the field. I'm guessing you would get a different answer.

Comparable tailgating?....I've been to UNI twice...and I guess I must be blind.

I can tell you this, if you were here earlier in the season there are a LOT more people tailgating.

Anyway glad you were able to make the trip, I PM'd you to come join us for some food and a beverage but I didn't hear back from you. Maybe next time.

Yes there were a ton of seats open on the South side....I'd be 40% of the south end zone was open.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to throw the red bulls**t flag on that one. I saw scattered sprinkles of blue watching it on TV, never did I see masses of empty blue.

108 dbs were clocked at the moment DJ scored the first TD of the game.

Not counting the section blocked off for the band (who were not back to their seats yet) I would estimate the percentage of empty seats in both end zones at much less than 40%.

I am very surprised at how many NDSU fans are saying how amazing the atmosphere was, and that it was the loudest that the Fargodome has ever been. It was loud, and it was a good atmosphere for sure, but it was nowhere near the noise levels that we have had at the UNIdome in big games. I don't mean this as a slight to NDSU either. It fans certainly played a role in the game, and it certainly was loud. I was just surprised to hear that was one of, if not the, loudest games ever at NDSU...

There were a lot of empty seats. And the tailgating comparison is definitely fair. At NDSU it is just in one place. At UNI it is all over campus, and very spread out.

I was in the south end zone and it was nowhere near 40% empty. The far SW corner had empty seats because that's the top of the student section and there were a couple hundred unclaimed student tix. Maybe right before halftime when the band was getting ready to get on to the field it may have been 25% empty but most of that was the band section.

I'd believe him. Even watching on tv/computer I could see several seats open on one side. (Best view was with the computer because it had the NDSU camera guy doing it and would scan the crowd often).

An announced crowd of 18,800+ but it didn't sound like it on the TV...especially when you can hear UNI people chanting. Also the Metrodome is far bigger and more spreadout than the FD. so to compare those two in decimal ratings is worthless.

I could hear the UNI chants when I watched the replay but take into account that this is when NDSU is on offense and our fans are being quiet (contrary to popular belief, Bison fans can shut up).

The North Dakota NBC feed is awful for picking up crowd noise, simply awful. I was at this game and I DVRed the replay and watched it and there was no comparison. Where were your seats? As you probably know, not every single person at a football game cheers at the same volume. If you were in the visitor's section, I'd imagine it would be quite a bit quieter than, say, in the student section or on the field.

It wasn't as loud as I expected either

Were you in Visitor seating with the majority of the UNI fans? I was in the corner SRO section there and I have to agree with you. On 3rd/4th Down it was fairly loud, but I was disappointed with the ENTIRE section that had end zone seats opposite the student/band end zone. For the most part they were quiet viewers. I yell at my TV more than they yelled during the game.

I would like to apologize though to the UNI fans, I KNOW I was loud and obnoxious during the game (to the point of being warned by security that I was being too loud....I think I let an f-bomb drop early on, not proud of that moment).

As the game reached the half a guy from the UNI section and I got into a routine of friendly taunting and he came up to me at the half and we shook hands, agreed that it was a fun time and both made it clear we were there to have fun and watch our respective teams. The friendly taunts continued in the 2nd half and after the game we spoke briefly again. All we had to say to each other was "Hell of a game" and "See you guys in the playoffs". MUCH respect for that man and the entire UNI fan base. It was fun.

Nothing confirmed at this point - but Rennie developed an ankle injury about 2/3 of the way last year also. He got blasted in the knee during the last regular season game against WIU (don't remember this being a cheap shot, just bad luck) which really showed against Leigh.

Rennie is a tough player. He wanted to come back in after that injury at NDSU. The staff keeps him in their even when he is less than 100% because they have so much respect for him, sometimes to a fault. Honestly, he plays and looks quite a bit like Armanti Edwards in the respect you think he is going to get broken in half they way they take hits. Both seemed to bounce back more often than not.

Don't know if we will know until game time what his status is - Farley usually keeps a pretty tight lid on that sort of thing.

That is really, really unfortunate. Not to mention most of the arguing is very subjective. Seriously, arguing over what is louder or what a tailgating situation is like. Those are purely opinion, and no real quantitative way to measure things. I think the whole thing was stupid.

Ya, good points.

It just gets sickening reading the negative crap about us. Ya, it is subjective but what they say is not true. I, as a fan, give credit where it is due. UNI is a very good team. But I don't go belittle them on their home fanboard or here. Ya, I want NDSU to beat UNI's a** but you still have to respect the program itself. UNI has been on the top of the MV for many years and NDSU is going to be a force in the Valley. I get sick of reading total "bunk" by some posters on here.

Ya, this year I think the Bison are one of the best teams in FCS. We could go 11-0 then lay an egg and lose.

The South endzone with the students, band and metal bleachers is much louder. The non-student fans in that part of the dome are also very into the game. IMO it is the best place to sit if you want to be in a loud environment.

McFeely and others on the sideline said it is way louder down on the field and it was one of the loudest games they can recall.

Being a season ticket holder for 9 years now, this game was the loudest game sustained for a whole game. The game winning TD against Sam Houston was loud and SDSU in 06 was a loud one. But this game was the loudest for the whole game.

Not loud. Whatever!

You know what UNI fans......NDSU was the better team......period. UNI is a good team and they will probably end up 9-2 or at the worst 8-3.

You guys can keep berating NDSU all you want but in the end we won. With how young we are I suspect we will keep winning in this series.

Man, just another delusional, myopic post...

A couple UNI fans comment on what they experienced at the game, and by not crowning NDSU as the best tailgate in the world, and the loudest stadium in FCS, they are "sore losers"? LOL

And yes, I am sure this is just the first game of a long string of dominance over UNI. We have never heard that before...

And I can't find a single person that is berating your team. Literally everyone in this thread has talked about how good of a team that NDSU has.

As long as you keep responding to their comments they will keep egging you on! What do you expect on message boards, for them to all start singing hail the Bison? Duh!

Yep, griff and clenz will never give any credit to NDSU. clenz does the same sh** on our own fanboard.....wow!

Did you go to the game?
UNI had around 50 people in the visitor section.....were you one of them?

What I said is not "delusional". We have a very good FCS tailgate.....read what I said. The Fargodome was loud saturday. You don't want to believe this then fine.

Nobody said that your tailgate was not good, and nobody said that your stadium wasn't loud.

You are hearing what you want to hear, and unless someone comes out and flat-out says "Bizon are the best", you take it as a slight.

Did you go to the game?

Your post (#420) said there were plenty of blue seats. No there wasn't. Granted not everyone is in there seats all the time (bathroom-concessions) but it was 97-99% full. It was a sell-out.

Ya, there might be some blue seats open (corporate season tx holders having no shows), but it was almost full.....technically sold-out.

Yes, I was at the game. And yes, there were plenty of empty seats. There is simply no disputing that. There was a lot of people there, and it was almost full, but there were empty seats.

I only commented on that because of the fact that the game was supposedly "sold out" early last week, and there literally no tickets available. I expected the place to be completely packed with SRO people all over the place.

Some blue seats out there for sure. But funny story is, not everyone is in their seat at any given time. It was essentially full, made for a very good time. Hope Rennie is alright. He is a very good player and gives UNI another playmaker.

Watching on tv, the only time I saw a noticable number of empty seats was when they scanned the visitor section.

You were at the game and there were plenty of blue seats??

I sit in our Teammaker area and there was not one single empty seat. The east side had a few blue seats and the endzones were really full to the top seats. I cannot see the student section so I cannot comment on that.

Say what you want, the game was a sell-out and it was a great college FB game atmosphere.

I guess I shouldn't expect anything less from a UNI fan.

Again, literally nobody has claimed otherwise. Yet you continue to choose to be offended.
