My prediction:
Rangers in 7, because both teams have strong offenses but have question marks on pitching.

How the crap do you pick against the Cardinals? They've done nothing but overcome an insurmountable lead, shut down the MLB's best team, and beat the NL's second best team and best offense.
That said, Rangers in six.

Texas in 6, their bats are too much to be stopped. Although, much support for the Card's Chris Carpenter!

And what's not to like about the Cardinals? :-)
Should be very interesting and if I'd have to guess, we will see something new that we have never seen before from TLR

I'm still picking the Brewers...they'll find a way to get into the World Series somehow

Unbelievably stupid that a team that went 90-72 has home field advantage over a team that went 96-66 because of an exhibition game in which some of the game's best pitchers (Verlander this year I believe) can't participate due to having just pitched. Give home field to the team with the better record. No dog in this fight, just think this is a dumb rule.

The cards will either stay hot, or their luck will finally run out. No reason to think it won't be a tough series. You can argue Texas is a more complete team than either Philly or Milwaukee. That is, they can hit and play defense.

Funny how during the playoffs prediction..so many people picked against Texas...but hey..I enjoy the Texas love.
Good series...Rangers in 6.
Also, I agree that the team with the better record should get home field during the world series.

I agree that the All-Star game shouldn't determine who gets home field. I'd rather see the league with the best winning percentage in inter-league games get the advantage.

I don't see how you can watch a game like that and argue that American League rules are the optimal way to play baseball. I understand some people like 9-6 baseball games, but man, that's just not the way the game is designed to be played. If you like offense, go watch Boise State. Great baseball game last night where, arguably, the manager gets a hat tip for the win.

it was a good baseball game..i stilll don't agree with the out called on Beltre's grounder in the 9th, but you know...it is what it is. Let's get it game 2.

I can see points for both having and not having the DH. But either way, there should be consistency between the leagues. I'm an AL fan in general, but I'd have no problem doing away with the Designated Hitter.

But you probably agree with the foul tip call on Berkman that didn't come near his bat.

Rangers have tied the series with a 2-1 victory, with a sacrifice fly to break the tie in the 9th.

Actually I'll agree that Jerry Layne needs to get it together.
On a side note..has a pinch hitter ever won MVP? Craig has made a point for it.

I can understand the call on the foul off the foot. Frankly, I've watched a lot of baseball, and I can't remember a foul off a foot that traveled 70 feet. Had that ball hit the foot and traveled about 4 feet, he probably gets the foul ball call. In real time, its hard to imagine a ball hitting a foot, staying fair, and traveling past third base.
Besides, these plays are a part of playoff baseball. Last NLDS Buster Posey stole second (which ended up being the winning run), and you could see he was out standing on the Bay Bridge. I'm still miffed at how the only person that saw him safe was the second base umpire. Still, you gotta take care of your business on the other 26 outs for those missed calls not to matter.

Cards lost that game by allowing the runner to move up to second. I thought the call at second was pretty close. The angle of view you get on instant replay is only two dimensional. I see the argument, but for me it was too close when done in real time. I think the Cards will like the Rangers ball park. We could see some high scoring games.

Game 2 loss is on Pujols. Now, we very well could have lost in extra innings as well but his mis-play was the difference in the 9th.
He can make up for it by going 4-4 with a couple of home runs tomorrow though

The MVP award started in 1955, in 1954 Dusty Rhodes would probably have won the MVP for the Giants .
But in his only World Series, in 1954, he delivered a game-winning pinch-hit home run in the 10th inning of Game 1, a game-tying pinch-hit single in Game 2 and a two-run pinch single in Game 3 to help the Giants win their last championship by sweeping the heavily favored Cleveland Indians

A game of slugging is over. St. Louis beat the Rangers 16-7, the crucial points here were the 3 Rangers errors.

Was there really any doubt?
Down 7 to 5, and down to their last strike, the Cardinals tie it in the bottom of the 9th
Down 9 to 7, and down to their last strike again, the Cardinals tie it in the bottom of the 10th
Tied 9 to 9, David Freese ends it on with a homerun to center.
Game 7. Game, freaking, 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not quite Kirby Puckett game 6 in 1991, but wow, what a game. I feel sad for Josh Hamilton, he was the HERO after the year with the texas stadium death, he deserved to be the hero. but crazy crazy game!!

I thought Joe Buck's homage to his old man with the walk-off call was pretty special also. Almost exactly 20 years to the day that his dad called Kirby's walk-off and made "We'll see you tomorrow night" into an iconic phrase his son calls an equally dramatic game 6 walk-off with the exact same line. Anyone else that tries that would just be ripping it off but for Joe Buck I thought it was a very cool tribute to his late great dad.

Damn, I turned it off at about 12:15 after the Rangers broke the tie in the top of the 10th to get some sleep before 8:30 classes. As a Red Sox fan I should know that means nothing in a playoff game.

However I hope next year, no matter who plays, the MLB has an ump with a consistent strike zone. This game should only be 4-2.
