So far, so good. The Eagles after three rounds appear to be on a rising road. Three excellent picks with Bunkley, Justice and Gocong. Very promising start. Has the makings of one of their better drafts.

We'll see. I laughed my a$$ off when I saw Vince Young was picked 3rd overall. He'll never live up to his hype.

Anyway, the Eagles under the Reid/Banner regime will always be competitive. I just doubt that they'll ever win a Super Bowl. It will require a bunch of dumb luck (i.e., playoff games against teams with head coaches dumber than Reid) and career years among the players for that happen.

I think the window of opportunity has closed for this era of Eagles, although not many guys still exist from the 2001 team that lost to the Rams. Maybe McNabb will get another shot in 4-5 years before he retires (scary how fast time flies) but i doubt it. I think Reid would be wise to consider moving on in another year of so if he doesn't win the big one. He doesn't seem to have the Cowher personality to stay somewhere without bringing home a championship. And since i doubt the Eagles will make a serious run at the the Super Bowl in the next 2-3 years his popularity will continue to dwindle in Philly. I wouldn't be suprised if they go on a 2-3 year stretch now where they don't make the playoffs. The Cowboys, Giants, and Redskins are all much better on paper right now and the Giants and Redskins, assuming the Skins can get their QB for the future seem better prepared to battle for the division over the next 5 years or so. AS for their draft, Justice is a steal in the second but i'm not sold on Bunkley. He seems to be a combine wonder who benefited from playing alongside 3 other first round players. Up until this past year his numbers were pedestrian at best. FSU has put a lot of highly touted DL guys in the NFL and a large number have never lived up to expectations. Andre Wadsworth and Corey Simon come to mind but there's 2 or 3 more that didn't set the world on fire either. They're usually great athletes but lack the intangibles to be pro bowl caliber players; Mickey Andrews is also a great D coordinater.

I don't consider Simon a bust, considering his numbers and impact in Philly; he just had a falling out over a new contract and moved on. Plus, he still has some years left. But yeah, Wadsworth and some others were definitely flops.

Bad pick. Young will be a bust, a la Michael Vick. Leinhart is the better QB, reminds me of Tom Brady.

I trhink Gocong will be a Philly crowd favorite. They love a player with a non-stop motor and he fills that ticket.

I'm not buying this idea that the "window" has closed on the Eagles. Despite his post-season debacles, McNabb is still the best QB in the NFC East. A fixed defensive line would go a long way to making the defense scary again - you saw last year what an absent defensive line would do to an all-Pro secondary, so hopefully Bunkley along with last year's Patterson and a hopefully now healthy McDougle (along with Kearse and this year's singing of Howard) should shore up the defensive line and cure a lot of the ills from last year. Granted the Eagles don't have a great WR corps, but it's better than what they had for some of those years they lost in the NFC championship game - and remember, TO didn't play in the playoffs when they went to the Super Bowl so they've proven you can get there without great WR's. An NFC East title isn't outside the realm of possibility this year - the Skins are still using Brunell at QB, the Giants are stuck with Eli, so I'm not too worried about them. The Cowboys will have one good year out of TO but we'll see how long they can keep it together - Parcell's is not long for the job so this could be his last hurrah.
