View Full Version : Hampton's Mathis (Texans) Wasting Chance

From before the NFL draft, Jerome Mathis is acting the part of a fool and really ruining his chances to make a positive impression on the new coaching staff in Houston. He's very raw and he doesn't really show the commitment necessary to the NFL just yet. He needs to do so or he'll be out of this league...or at the very least, out of Houston.

---------
Returner wasting chance
Mathis, who isn't supposed to ride motorcycles, was involved in an accident over the weekend. The AFC's Pro Bowl kickoff returner wasn't injured seriously. He suffered cuts on his arms and is wearing bandages that are supposed to come off this week.

The problem is that Mathis is blowing a great opportunity to show coach Gary Kubiak, offensive coordinator Troy Calhoun and receivers coach Kyle Shanahan that all those things they heard about him aren't true.

But they are.

The Texans can't count on Mathis, which is another of the many reasons they would be foolish to pass up Bush. Not only is Bush an extraordinary runner, but his terrific receiving and return skills make him even more valuable entering the draft.

Defensive end Mario Williams is a super prospect, too, but unless he could knock some sense into Mathis, he's not going to be as useful to the Texans as Bush.

As for Mathis, if he doesn't get his act together fast, he can get back on his motorcycle and ride it right out of town.

This is sad to hear. Jerome is an incredible talent, and I hope he gets his head straight. Reporter is probably overstating his risk of being let go, but he's certainly not helping himself.

Not at all...

If he gets hurt or does foolish things which could lead to him getting hurt, no chance he lasts in Houston...especially since he'll probably call for a good deal of $$$...

Hardly...

This is the former (if he still isn't already) President of the NFL Writers Association. He sits on the NFL Hall of Fame commitee and on the Texas Sports HOF commitee. He makes radio appearances on numerous radio shows not just in Houston and is one of the most respected NFL writers out there.
