The number one pick, Mario Williams, DE from North Carolina St selected by the Houston Texans. It will become official tommorrow when he comes across the stage in New York...
The Saints are on the clock and we could very well see a trade by then, as many teams have contacted them about a trade...

From the looks of it, D'Brickashaw Ferguson may have fallen the farthest here. Vic Carucci really thinks VY is going to fall to Oakland now with the Titans taking Leinart.
This is an updated NFL mock draft by Vic Carucci, the national editor for NFL.com following the Mario Williams announcement...
1. Houston: Mario Williams, DE, NC State
2. New Orleans: Reggie Bush, RB, USC
3. Tennessee: Matt Leinart, QB, USC
4. N.Y. Jets: D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia

6. San Francisco: Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon
7. Oakland: Vince Young, QB, Texas
8. Buffalo: A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio State
9. Detroit: Michael Huff, DB, Texas
10. Arizona: Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt

I just hope Tye Hill is still there when my Bears get to pick at 26th. Here's hoping we trade up to land him. If not, we're certain to grab a TE, either Pope from Georgia or Lewis from UCLA. Man, I love the NFL Draft.

They're introducing the players that are there (Bush, Leinart, Ferguson, Young, Williams and Davis) on NFL Network...
Bush got an alright reception, nothing special...
Davis got booed...
D'Brickashaw got some boos, some cheers...
Leinart got boos, but more cheers...
Williams got a lukewarm response, no boos...
Young was introduced last and got cheers before he came out, the largest reception of the six...

NFL Network is reporting VY to the Titans...
1. Texans - Mario Williams
2. Saints - Reggie Bush
3. Titans - Vince Young
Problem is, this is probably going to take 40-45 minutes as I don't see these teams making these picks pretty quickly per the norm...

The trade just didn't happen with the Jets and the Saints have taken Bush, which could be traded eventually, but it doesn't seem like he'll budge...

Yes, on DirectTV. I find myself watching NFL Network all the time and they are just improving the content with games this fall, NFLE (which allows you to see some great I-AA players trying to make the next level), better draft coverage, etc, etc...

And Matt Leinart looks like he's seen a ghost. Won't be going for a while now. Packers took Rogers last year, Niners had Smith. He could go with the Raiders and I think the Bills will take Ngata to improve their run defense which has pretty gaping holes in it.

How does Tarvaris Jackson compare with the other available I-AA QB's?
From NFL.com...
"Teams will be cautious to draft him because, until his footwork and throwing motion improve, he is going to have trouble becoming a consistent passer in the NFL. He would be a great pick towards the end of the draft and will need to spend a few seasons developing before he is ready to legitimately compete for a starting job."
http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2006/jackson_tarvaris
He ranked first amongst I-AA players at the QB position according to a post I made last week...
1 Tavaris Jackson, Alabama St,
2 Erik Meyer, Eastern Washington (stock rising)
3 Barrick Nealy, Texas St
4 Ingle Martin, Furman
6 Travis Lulay, Montana St
7 Bruce Eugene, Grambling
8 Rickey Williams, Appalachian St (stock dropping)

He can run, he throw, he can do it all. Man in 2004 he put his team on his back in the SWAC Championship and beat us. He is a great passer, and he is a transfer from Arkansas. People slept on him all year!

he is on Chicago sports radio right now... return guy
More than that, and saying Devin Hester is a "return guy" is like saying, um, that ralph is "a fan of I-AA football." I'm drunk, so probably not the best analogy, but hopefully my point came across. Devin Hester is one of the nastiest return-men I've ever seen, at the least. He also plays WR.

I guess everybody is biased though towards who they've actually seen play. Could probably explain why the I-AA guys are getting the cold shoulder right now.

Since this is a rather boring year for the Falcons draft, I'm now just rooting exclusively for I-AA'ers to be drafted anywhere.

The "experts" are once again saying that the Texans are on pace to have another horrible draft. Any thoughts? I have not been watching it.

They need'em! I'm sure there's some flexibility there that they may be able to play the guard positions or atleast one of them does...
Texans two-deep definitely need a strong right tackle as Weigert is getting old and injured. Need depth at left tackle where Seth Wand has been a project player. McKinney is going to play some guard and Drew Hogodon is going to be a strong center down the road...

I think Texans are going to be ripped for Reggie Bush and the rest of the draft will be graded based on that sole fact...
I think the Texans got a great player in Lundy who as another mentioned fell because he was hurt. They need a guy to replace Jonathan Wells...
Texans have had TE issues in the past and needed a sturdy backup. They got one.
OL is obviously a issue and 670 pounds later, I think we're feeling a lot better with two great linemen, one of whom should compete for a starting job...
Williams will start on the DLine which needed assistance because we're switching from 3-4 to 4-3...
The needs were answered. Texans did fine...

I'm sorry, but getting Reggie Bush does not make this a good draft for the Saints. Yes, it will sell tickets, but there is no guarantee that he will make them into a playoff team, like most are suggesting
I also disagree with the Matt Leinart assessment. He may have fallen a few spots, but he fell into a team with a great offense. As for the money, nobody gets rich off of their rookie contract, its the free agent/extensions that make them rich

Wetzel's an idiot. Leinart gets to play behind Warner for a year or so, then throw to the NFL's best WR duo, and hand off to the EDGE.
Leinart went to a perfect team for him.

my thoughts exactly, more than any other player in the top 10-15, he has the best chance at going to a winning team, especially now since they have EJ
