Of note, the Memphis beat writer said Memphis deserves to be in the SEC as much as he deserves to be Mr Universe! ;)

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) - University of Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson said the Tigers "deserve" to be in the SEC in an interview Monday with Action News 5.

Appearing on the first day of 'Paint the Town Blue' week, Johnson addressed the university's position in the midst of a flurry of conference re-alignments in recent months.

"We want to try to get ourselves in the best possible place," Johnson said. "Ultimately we would like to be in the SEC. That's where we think we belong geographically. We think we deserve to be."

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) - University of Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson was placed into the Memphis Regional Psychiatric Hospital just shortly after making comments about the rightful place of the Tigers in conference realignment. Johnson's condition is considered serious, and he has been placed under 24 hour surveillance. A team of Fed Ex employees have placed an injuction to rename the school, Break Your Box State.

Evidently not many cared about his comments...

If you're thinking that the University of Memphis athletic director has had a rough day following his remark early this morning on WMC-TV 5 that the Tigers deserve to be in the Southeastern Conference, you're thinking wrong. Well, at least that's what R.C. Johnson told me a few moments ago. He received all of two e-mails on the topic, he said. One ripped him for being ridiculous. "The other one, it's 'It's about time you start thinking big'," he said.

For fun...

BIRMINGHAM (TSK) -- In a stunning move, the SEC announced today that it has accepted the application of Memphis to become the 14th member of the conference.

"Those Missouri people can't figure out what they want to do in like a nine-hour long meeting, so we figured what the h---?" said a visibly drunk Mike Slive. He then joined the SEC presidents in a slurred rendition of "Go Tigers Go," the Memphis fight song.

Sources inside the SEC indicate that Ole Miss, Kentucky and Vanderbilt pushed hard for the Tigers' inclusion. When asked why, the source simply said: "Have you seen Kentucky play this year?"

Another source indicated that Auburn was no longer willing to move to the SEC East to accommodate the move to 14 teams. "First of all," said the source, who works at Auburn, "we would be giving up a game against Memphis for what -- a game against Vanderbilt. Really?"

I wished we had an AD who desired to be at the top. Most successful people have been lambasted for their crazy idea.

There is a fine line between shooting for the stars and saying something completely idiotic.

Agreed with dgtw. The Big East is a reach for Memphis even with the implosion on the league.

Their best bet would be the strength of their hoops somehow getting them into the Big East. Even mentioning a move to the SEC is a joke, it has been more than 2 years since their last win in Conference USA.
