Top Five Remains Unchanged
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The top five of the Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll remained unchanged this week as all the top teams won this past weekend. Georgia Southern remains at No. 1 for the fifth straight week with 698 points and 26 first-place votes.

After six weeks of college football action, three teams, Georgia Southern, North Dakota State and Sam Houston State all remain undefeated with unblemished 5-0 records.

The biggest jumps in the poll this week were from South Dakota and Coastal Carolina as each moved up four spots to No. 14 and 20, respectively. The Coyotes defeated then-No.22 Southern Utah, 24-19. South Dakota running back Marcus Sims rushed for a career-high 153 yards in the win. Coastal Carolina opened conference play defeating VMI, 34-10. Quarterback Aramis Hillary completed 14-of-23 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns.

Three teams broke into the top 25 this week. Maine’s two-point conversion in overtime gave the Black Bears a 25-24 win over then-No. 6 James Madison. Old Dominion picked up its first conference road win, 31-23 over Rhode Island. Towson’s D.J. Soven kicked a game-winning 27-yard field goal as time expired to give the Tigers a 31-28 win over Richmond.

As the three new teams cracked the top 25, Southern Illinois, Southern Utah and Chattanooga all fell out of the top 25.

Richmond suffered the greatest drop in the rankings this week, as the Spiders fell nine spots following their loss to Towson. James Madison fell seven spots and William & Mary dropped six. It is the lowest rankings William & Mary and Richmond have received in 2011, as they are 15th and 25th, respectively.

Ten conferences are represented in the poll. The Colonial Athletic Association continues to lead the way with eight teams ranked in the top 25. The Missouri Valley Conference and the Southern Conference each have three ranked teams. The Big Sky, Great West, Ohio Valley, and the Southland are all represented with two ranked teams. The Big South, Patriot League and Southwestern Athletic Conference all have one team in this week’s top 25.

FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and is administered by the Southern Conference.

Better than last week when Delaware was 10 or 11 and Maine was unranked.

So you obviously think Lehigh would be favored against UD.
Do you honestly think most people would agree with you?
Sagarin and Born don't.

Maine at 16 is a much bigger injustice.

I have a feeling that we'll see Lehigh-Delaware in the playoffs again. Hopefully in Bethlehem!

Lehigh is going to see several teams in the Playoffs

[wink wink]

Yeah, thank goodness they've started broadcasting them on the internet so everyone can watch. xlolx

That would be a great matchup in Bethlehem (for a change).
But it wouldn't be a first round game.
Can't remember the last time UD travelled for 1st round. Certainly before the Geographic "re-alignment" in 2001.
I know in '93 we were a #15 seed and travelled to Montana. There might have been another first-round road trip more recent, but I can't remember off-hand.

I'm not saying Maine at 16 isn't an injustice. But beating a bad William & Mary team to jump over Lehigh in the standings?

Following this weird losing, Delaware's loss to No. 16 didn't hurt them at all, while Lehigh's loss to No. 6 (or resounding win at Bucknell, take your pick) hurt them enough to fall below Delaware?

The other polls don't follow this twisted logic, only the coach's poll.

3-2 and 4-2 should always be ranked ahead of 5-0. I think the Coaches have us ranked too high.

Must be a lot of UND fans. North Dakota is trailing a below .500 NAIA team after 1 quarter and they skyrocket into the top 20. Why does anyone schedule tough non conference games if an NAIA win has so much weight!! 2 D1 wins is all it takes to crack the poll. Standards must be low. Maybe the confused Montana Western with Montana or Montana State?

Cause polls only barely matter. And if everyone scheduled nothing but NAIA games they would have 0 chance at playoffs.

tell that to the committee that sets up the seedings and match-ups for the FCS playoffs

They don't use external polls(Coaches, TSN and various computer polls). I'm sure they have their own internal polls though.

superman, how did that 31-17 massacre of Delaware by an unranked Maine team only a few weeks ago work out for you?

If 14 points is a massacre, Lehigh got massacred three times last year alone by the CAA, so you know better than I. I guess light-hearted boasting isn't really your forte. :)

Right on - because nobody from NDSU ever mentioned or worried about the polls during your transition period. xbangx

So what we trailed 3-0 after 1 quarter and killed them the other 3 quarters for a 42-9 thumping. Teams lost so they moved down, teams win so they move up thats how it works in polls. Eventually UND will overtake NDSU in polls..I can't say what year but you know it will happen, and how many Bison fans are going to kill themselves when it happens. There will be protesting, emails to the NCAA, it will be a media outcry (just like it was a few weeks ago in the poll-gate mixup).

Just because no one knew they were good at the time, doesn't mean they weren't. Now they beat JMU and all of a sudden they're good?

And to whoever was wondering why I thought it justified that UD jumped ahead of Lehigh - I don't. I thought Lehigh didn't belong that high to begin with.

BTW, the 31-17 "massacre" as you call it, was a lot closer than the score indicates. Lot of football left to play though. We'll all find out - hopefully soon.

W&M at #16? In the CAA alone, they are better than Nova and MAYBE Rhody. Maybe.

That said, W&M will beat UNH; it's what we do.

Huh?

Delaware and JMU are both ranked higher than Maine? The sports network poll has Maine ranked lower than Delaware as well. I can almost understand Delaware since they played at Maine, but I cannot understand JMU. We were missing several players Saturday, so that can't be the reason.

coaches poll is bunk, 2 great west coaches, 2 big sky coaches = 4 votes for a team that has 2 naia wins with 0 quality wins (suu isnt)

Ndsu fans didnt have to worry, because we were ranked #1 over the course of 2 years.
