FCS BCS 10/6/2011

Well it is still early and I am still only using 5 computers instead of 6, but figured I would post this again. Last time most of what I got were people bashing on the BCS. Well the system is good it is just implemented wrong in FBS. If they used it to pick playoff teams it would work pretty well. Some of you will probably disagree, but oh well.

This week Maine and Furman were the main beneficiaries from being very strong in the computers. While William and Mary is benefiting from being strong in the Human Polls. It will be nice when I can implement all the computers, and it gets a little later in the season. I may even do my Playoff Predictions based on this later in the year.

And if anyone knows where I can find Sagarin ratings sorted by the ELO-Chess it would be greatly appreciated.

It's an interesting take, and I appreciate you doing this, even if the numbers still look wonky (am I really under-selling Furman that much? What the heck is up with McNeese?)

It will also be really interesting to see how this changes, especially as all these CAA teams start knocking each other around.

Well Furman is very strong in the computers, but I am guessing some of them take Margin of Victory into consideration. The one I know for sure has MOV taken out is the Sagarin ELO-Chess ranking and that is their weakest computer ranking. McNeese has very weak computer rankings.

I may have to change some of the computers I use, but I will have to just judge that as the season progresses.

What computer rankings do you use? Wes Colley ranks FCS teams for his Matrix. While I don't think those are posted on his website, there may be a way to get them to use in your analysis.

Currently just Massey, Sagarin, Laz, Born, and Keeper. The 6th one will be Wolfe. I will have to check out Colley, and see if I can get his FCS ratings. Because I am trying to get as many of the same computers as the actual BCS formula. A couple of them do not rate the FCS schools, though.

south dakota shouldnt be in there, they caught ewu on a bad trip, then got destroyed by wisconsin.

The thing about South Dakota is the computers like them. We will see what happens after their game with Southern Utah tomorrow. I have a feeling if they win they will keep moving up. I am not positive and I could look it up, but some of these computers I believe use some SOS. Despite losing, just playing a team as strong as Wisconsin is helping their computers at this point.

I am still in the process of adjusting this. I actually just found there is a Massey BCS rating that is quite different from his basic rating. I will get that one is use next week since it is the one used in the actual BCS rankings. It is a work in progress and just something a little different to look at and discuss.
