Phillies firstbaseman Ryan Howard hit a titanic homerun today--the first the clear the tall brick backdrop in centerfield above the ivy terrace that borders Ashburn Alley. The blast was reported to be 496 feet. Longest in Citizens Bank Park's short history and the first to reach the 'alley'. He also homered in his next at bat, the following inning to lead the Phils to victory over the Marlins. Gordon got his 5th save in as many opportunities. Meyers got the win.

I thought the big news was that the Phillies won at home. Of course Charlie Manuel wasn't managing since he had been tossed.

The umpire who tossed Utley and Manuel, a guy named Dan Iassogna, is one of the worst umps in the majors. Also, he hates the Phillies: he was the first ump who ever threw the normally mild-mannered Scott Rolen out of a game.

Nice to see a home win and a very good pitching performance by Myers. He is cleary the ace of that staff.

All in all a good win...I was upset Utley got tossed, but hey if Manuel goes with him it might be worth it!
