Two guys who in the early to mid 90's were among the best hitters in baseball, they have fallen on some hard times. I would say that Griffey has had the worse luck, since it seems like he has fallen farther than Thomas. When Griffey was in Seattle, there were people saying that he would be the best of all time.

Here's a question: Does anyone think Thomas will make the Hall of Fame?

I think Griffey's a lock, even given his poor numbers over the last 3-4 years. He put up such good numbers over a 10 year span as to assure himself a plaque. I don't know much about Thomas's number though.

He has had the impact on baseball, and stats, that would cause me to feel he is a Hall of Famer.

I still have 2 players on my should be Hall-of-Famer retired vets.
Roger Maris - More of an impact than stats, still holds the AL home run record for a season. IMO bigger impact than Roger Bresnahan and Shin-guards.

-Back to back MVPs 1993-1994 (robbed of 2000 MVP by Steroids Giambi)
-10 season over.300 (including 1st 8)
-had 20+ HR, 100+ RBIs +100 BBs in 8 straight yrs
-One of the best hitters in the 1990's

-Career .309 AVG 436 HRs 1440 RBI, 1450 BBs, .567 Slg %, .431 OBP

I would say that Griffey is in, he has the magic number of 500 homeruns, even if the homerun numbers in recent years have been a little inflated. Thomas, I am not so sure, he has some very good numbers and I think if he had kept up the success he had earlier in his career, he would be a shoe-in.

As for Roger Maris, I agree that he had a great impact, but a career .260 average and 275 homeruns will never get you into Cooperstown.
