Scifres hopes to land feet first in the NFL
Missouri State player believes his future is as a kicker, even though brother is punter for Chargers

Jonathan Scifres had his heart set on playing linebacker in high school. Or maybe he’d try tight end or some other position. But all he ever did was kick.

He could blame his last name for that.

“If you’re a Scifres, you’re going to kick,” said Scifres, the Missouri State kicker and punter for the last four years. “That’s how it goes.”

Scifres had the good fortune — or misfortune — of following his brother, Mike, who was a Division I-AA All-American punter at Western Illinois University and was a fifth-round draft pick by the San Diego Chargers in 2003.
