The only thing he can't play is nice :)

Man, who cares about losing him on the field......the most important thing is this neck injury is not life threatening! I wish a speedy recovery for this young man.

Agreed, ElonPride. For the record, I joke about players getting injured a lot. It's really poor form and no laughing matter as this Eagle injury reminds us.

Really bad break for the kid...he's a heck of a player. All the best to him in his recovery.

Oh yeah. Thought he meant both were injured during the game. Between Zeke, Jaybo and now Derek, I don't think I could take any more bad news.

He's going to be in a halo for at least the next three months. It's pretty hard to get a helmet over those things, so I don't think you guys have to worry about him playing. Besides, with the way our Dline will be tearing through the weak Oline of yours - I could play safety and pick off a few passes.

I did not. And sadly, at this point he is probably past the Medical Redshirt threshold (if it is only season, and not career). I truly do hate to see players injured.

That has been, and as far as I know continues to be, a question about the redshirt amongst many of us fans. He played in two full games and into the third quarter of the third. Be that as it may, whether he can ever play again or not, the main thing is to hope that he recovers to a point that he can live a life without limitation. Fortunately, all reports that I have heard have been that he also excels academically, so he still has much to look forward to in life. Someone else already said it, but as a GA Southern fan I would like to add my thanks to all of you fans of other schools who have expressed your good wishes and prayers for Derek.

Glad to hear that he is also on track for his degree. When you are playing you never see the end coming, and it can all be gone in a single play. Having a degree makes life much easier in the future. Unfortunately, most every kid thinks they are going to play on Sundays (even if they are riding the pine at FCS..or lower), and many put academics on a back burner.

Actually, Brent Russell is quite a nice young man, from my experiences interviewing him. People might not know, too, that Brent has a twin brother.

Best wishes to Derek Heyden. You hate seeing anyone injured.

He can get a medical redshirt if we advance through the playoffs. The rule is less than 20% of games played.

Could you imagine the GSU Defense with TWO Manbearpigs?

Heyden will be missed, he was a huge asset to our secondary.

Wasn't too nice against Wofford in last years playoffs.

Mr. C talked with him when his helmet was off. When it's on Manbearpig tends to get mean and hungry...

The most important thing is that this injury will not be serious enough to effect this fine young man for the rest of his life. I can ony imagine the disappointment he and his family must feel to be out the rest of his senior season after such a great career and the promise of an all conference last season. Hopefully, with the expectations of playoffs ahead for the Bulldogs the medical redshirt rules will apply and he will have next year. Thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

Huh?

Uh, damn! My first mistake this year. Sorry, meant Eagles. I had Bulldogs on the brain.....you know, the ones that came back and scored 28 unanswered points on the Mocs.
