If you had at least filled the visitor's side today, maybe you had room to talk. Using your logic, ASU played on a middle school level today.

BTW, y'all do know that you're supposed to punt on 4th & more than one or two, right? Do you even have a punter dressed for games?
xrolleyesx
What's a punt? is that the latest trick play everyone runs nowadays?
but seriously we did quick kick it :P

Hopefully we will meet again & you will run it often!

Grats to Wofford, you beat us by a lot more than what the score would indicate. I'm still having to adjust to the notion that our *offense* is the problem. Our D did it's job, but the O was just completely ineffective. We'll do allright in conference play, but I don't think 7 championships is likely at this point.

Were you waving it where it was blocking their view of the field? I can completely understand you getting crap for that. I do that myself at Georgia Southern games. Wave it during breaks in action if you're going to be blocking people, not when there's something going on down on the field.
Flag pole was coming off my boday nat a little more than 90* and we had a walkway infront of us instead of seats. We were pretty consious of blockingn people views and flew on critical plays like important 3rd's, etc. They just weren't a part of the game.

7 championships? After watching our anemic offense, pedestrian play-calling and our young defense get run over by the triple option, I'm worried about making the playoffs. We've got two more teams to play, one at a tough environ and the other against #1 team in the nation, that run this offense and they both won today.....

I was a few rows behind you today and there were a few miserable bastards in the stands today looking to take their anger out on someone. Most of the time you were fine.

No jest. Our D does alot better at home. Look at our home record, especially against Wofford. It's hard to get that hype and momentum when the stadium you're playing in serves as more of a sledding playground than a football stadium. And apparenty out older alumni sections discourages support at away game (highcountry). Gibbs is a snooze fest. Fittingly, a highschool band performed!
Dude you're right about the family atmosphere at Gibbs. That's just Wofford, but ther's no doubt that you wern't playing a highschool team. When I played I never even paid attention to the stands. It's all about the game. Go Terriers!

whatever....regardless, we were dominated in every facet of the game in that HS atmosphere. We'll be lucky to make playoffs considering we play two other offenses of this nature that we displayed no ability to consistently get off the field within 3 downs.....not to mention our uninspired play-calling....all the accolades to Wofford...they were a much better team today and if we played them 10 times this year, they'd win 7 times IMO.....they're better than us this year...period...

I don't know what game you were watching man, but the one I saw wasn't decided until we failed to convert in the red zone with 3 minutes in the 4th. I will certainly agree that Wofford out played us and was clearly the better team, but I'm not sandbagging like some people. We will get better at defending the TO and playing GSU at KBS should be an equalizer. App State is still a SoCon championship/playoff contender and it's gonna take a loss to a team not named Wofford or Georgia Southern to prove otherwise.

First, congrats to Wofford, great team effort and led by a great coach. My wife and I sat on the home side, after the sunburn misery of 2007,my wife would not go back and sit on the visitor side. But, it really is a different experience compared to KBS. You can hear all the various converstation going on around you and I could even hear small groups of App fans from the accross the field cheering. I will say we were treated very well by the Wofford folks and they are a very classy group of folks. Good luck the rest of the way.

I don't think I was alive back then. Regardless, well played game by Wofford. Wasn't the last time App State lost to Wofford in the family atmosphere? Also, wasn't that '07? Granted, I don't think there are lot of parallels between the teams, but if history repeats itself, maybe this is a good thing for the Mountaineers. Then again, with GSU, Furman (they wont "The Battle For Purple Supremacy" right?), and Wofford being as good as they are, I guess we'll see. This year is going to be a fun one when everything plays out in the end.

I have been telling folks on the staff for years that at some point Eric Breitenstein would come back to beat them (I covered a number of his games at Watauga High School). Think you should have recruited the local boy now? For crying out loud, his grandfather used to be an App State assistant and then was head coach for a year and his brother played on national championship teams there.

He had a great day. Last year he had 39 yards. Some say App did recruit him as a linebacker and he wanted to go somewhere other than Boone. There are quite a number of athletes who desire the same thing.

I have read that App delayed in recruiting him, and that by the time they went after him he had already committed to Wofford. According to a Jerry Moore quote, he did not pursue him further out of respect for Mike Ayers.

The game I watched had us trying to play catch-up all day while allowing them to wear out our young defense by keeping them on the field for a 17min TOP differential. They accomplished that by essentially running up the gut for close to 400yds. I also watched an anemic offense put together 2-3 decent drives but stall out in the red zone, fail to convert a Wofford TO deep in their territory into any points at all. I saw a play-calling strategy that failed to utilize a 6'5" NFL prospect at receiver nor establish any consistent rhythm nor impose any of their will against an opposing defense. I also saw a PK with a heluva leg but no accuracy leave 9 pts on the field while making me pine for the inconsistency of Varitek.
Listen, I'm not saying were a bad team, but the jig is up. We're not an imposing team at all. An embarrasing outing against VaTech, no offensive TD's against UT-C (El cid scored 4 times) and a lackluster showing today doesn't bode well, IMO. If were still in SoCon contention, it'll be due to the failures of other teams. What I saw today was a team who has very little control of their own destiny.

First congrats to the Terriers, great win for you guys at home. I was at the game and had a good time. Biggest complaint has to be the atmosphere at Wofford, it's terrible. Regardless, I'm glad I went, it was my first trip to the metropolis of Spartanburg, and will return from now on since it is such a short drive from Boone.
As far as play, App needs an O coordinator, this has to improve, how or why we don't have one hurts the part of my brain designated to reasoning. Game was closer than it appears. Had we made the damn field goals and could convert in the red zone just once, no problem. But we didn't.
Wofford you played a great game, but if you continue to go for it on 4th down every time it's going to bite you in the ***.
Citadel coming back to beat Nooga 28-27 was awesome, SoCon is the most competitive it's been in years. Should be fun as hell.

...I was kidding. Thank you for that response though. I wasn't alive the last time Elon beat App State (I hope I can still say that after this season...we'll see), but Furman has been good fairly recently. It actually looks like they may be good this year.

Wofford is indeed the home of a family atmosphere. If I was a Terrier, I wouldn't trade Wofford's atmosphere for a drunken tailgate scene. I enjoyed my last trip down there and was happy that my grandson didn't have to see a bunch of drunken, cursing, fans.

Anyone that had a problem with the atmosphere at Wofford on Saturday has to question their enjoyment of college football. Most of the App fans had a great tailgate area near the stadium with perfect weather and very friendly contact with the Wofford supporters. No their weren't 30K in the stands but a good vocal crowd of 10K+ and maybe the best Wofford football team I have seen. The Apps had a good group there but very little to cheer about for much of the game. Aside from the loss our group had a great time and a healthy respect for Wofford. See you Ankle-biters at The Rock next year!

- 10k my ***, I'd say 6k tops, 1-2k being App fans
- They were not vocal at all
- It was windy as hell
- A friend of mine was heckled (twice, she came back) by an 80-year-old woman just for wearing ASU stuff
Not saying it was a god-awful experience, but you're embellishing a little bit. Wofford gameday is like a Friday night highschool game where everyone wears Vineyard Vines, brings a refrigerator box for their kids to sled on, and checks the VT-Clemson score every 5 minutes. I'll concede that they offer the best college football experience for children ages 5-12 in the nation, bar none.

Willing to wager? I hope you're right and I'm wrong, but I saw nothing this Saturday (nor this year against "equal" competition for that matter) that would lead me to believe we are playoff caliber team. Especially with UT-C's meltdown and giving up 4 TD's to run-oriented Citadel when we couldn't score a single TD. Also, we play at Citadel, at Furman and at Elon with GSU left yet.....

Hard to criticize a team's atmosphere when they beat you. I'll be the first to tell you Wofford is about my least favorite place to a game (that sunlight on the visitors side makes it feel like you have a spotlight in your face the entire game), but every school's stadium has their annoyances.

Wofford's home side seats about 8k....we had at least 6k or 7k in that part....App seats about 5k but they had it about 4k full. 10k is an accurate estimation. Your stadium only has 8,500 seats so I'm guessing the press box side seats about 6,000. That would leave 2,500 seats on the opposite side. The 13,000 capacity number has been refuted many times over the years.

*gasp* - I actually agree with you youngterrier... 10,000 is very reasonable for your stadium. The visitors side may "seat" 2,500, but it's also general admission so you can squeeze a few extra in... add the grass and you've got room for 10,000 plus some. We do it on a regular basis at GSU.

there were plenty of gaping holes on both sides from what I could tell... my wife and I had a row to ourselves on the away side!... I did hear a rumor though that the home side sold all tickets...
They did, and they announced as much the day before on the game as only 3 sections of the visitors side were available before the game. Still...the V-lot get's a significant amount of people there believe it or not and the hill had a good amount too. We definitely had more Wofford fans there than we did against GSU last year.

Well I'm sure as hell not gonna criticize their team xlolx. Looking forward to my first trip to FurpleVille this year. I used to date a girl who's parent's both went there. Her mother was so nice, great person. Her dad was a complete tool in every way so I'm interested to see which of the two is a better representation of ol' FU. She went to UNC so needless to say, she was a tw@t.
FU's a great place for football if weather is good. What's really awesome is they let you go out to the tailgate lot during halftaime and then allow you back in for the 2nd half. Word to the wise....if it's sunny, bring shades...trust me on this...

If you're going to whine about an 80 year old heckling you, you probably shouldn't be at a football game
Just passing on the word second hand. Ask Highcountry, it was him and some other friends of mine. Apparently she was outrageous. She said App was a division 2 school, that Wofford was going to win and that she was a "dookie." She was probably hopped up on prunes or something.

Ask an SEC fan or ACC fan what their impressions are of KBS, the Tub, Paulson, or Wa-Griz. I'll bet it's just as much a slap in the face as you're giving Wofford. They would have kicked our asses in a cowpasture Saturday, and denigrating their facilities and fanbase won't bring that back.
BTW - if it hasn't already been said, excellent video board, Terriers. xsalutex

Well I know some ACC fans that were impressed by our facility. And by the fact that it's just as loud as our in state, FBS counterparts. Again, I'm not taking anything away from their team. I believe I said that already, but their facilities are another matter and I wouldn't change my opinion even if Woffy wins the next 4 NC's and App doesn't win a game.
The difference between KBS and Gibbs is far greater than KBS and Kenan, especially atmosphere.

talk to me when App brings 6x their current enrollment to be spectators at a football game (what would that be 100K?). App has like what, 180,000 living alumni? correct me if that's wrong. Yeah, Wofford doesn't have what App has in terms of a following and that's the only thing we lack, but our fans come out more on a proportional scale than App's does, or any other team in the conference for that matter, PERIOD.

App brings all their students=17k
Wofford brings all of their students= 1k
Big difference. 80% of wofford fans at games aren't students, the same can't be said of app state

I'm confused here. Somebody please help me out. Wofford is one of the best stadiums to go to in the Socon. The fans, Alums and students are some of the most hospitable you will ever have the pleasure of talking to as a fan of a visiting team. They have a beautiful campus and stadium. They just don't get rowdy like most places including KBS.
Sure, I hate to lose just like everybody else, but on Saturday the better team won. I just don't understand this pizzing match.

This is our atmosphere and it's how we like it. It is family oriented and our team plays ball. I wonder how old you guys are that complain about the "atmosphere." Our families come to the games and there is something for everyone. Break it down on family!
You don't have a football atmosphere. If I wanted to sip tea and watch a nice game of chess play out, then yes it would be a great atmosphere. Football in the south is a passionate religion and I'm passionate about my team and expect opposing fans to be just as passionate. It's great you like your "atmosphere" but silence and kids riding down the hill on cardboard sleds all day is not my idea of college football. Felt more like a pot luck sports banquet at a church. You do have a very nice screen and no track around the field, that's about the only positive thing inside the stadium as far as I'm concerned.

This was my original post. I first congratulated the Terriers but my ONLY complaint was the atmosphere.

I also congratulated their team, conceded that they were the better team Saturday and only criticized the atmosphere. It wasn't a jaded, soar loser shot at the program. Just an observation. This was my first trip to Wofford and I was just being honest. My apologies if it came of as a "well at least our stadium is bigger" kind of thing. I assure you my comments would not have been much different if we had won.

We were loud Saturday, just only on key moments like 3rd or 4th down or after a 1st down.....Wofford had a lot of third downs. The atmosphere Saturday was great.

I'm pretty sure ASU just added it's 100,000th living alumni in December 2010. I know that's still more than WoCo, but not 180,000.
Other than that, WoCo's atmosphere is what it is (thank you John Fox). I honestly couldn't care less about what type of atmosphere WoCo has. I enjoyed my time there this weekend, save for three hours or so. Hate I missed you, I met up with ASUG8 before you went over to his spot. It would have been nice to meet you.
