Well, another one of those college football showcases has been having issues in recent years and they are hoping that with the event in Houston, that it could turn around the game. Declining attendance in San Fransisco moved it to San Antonio, who didn't do that well with it either. We'll see if Houston can turn the crowd around, but I'm not sure it could..

Reliant to host Shrine Game
After a year in San Antonio, all-star event comes here in '07

By JOSEPH DUARTE

The East-West Shrine Game, the nation's oldest college football all-star game, will change venues for the second straight year and move to Reliant Stadium in 2007, an NFL official confirmed Wednesday.

An official announcement will be made today.

The East-West Shrine Game, generally played in January, was moved from the San Francisco Bay Area — where it was largely played since its inception in 1925 — to San Antonio in 2006 because of declining attendance in the Bay Area. This year's game drew only 18,533 on Jan. 21 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Terms of the deal with Reliant Stadium were not available.

I guess with the plethora of bowl games with real teams competing and trying to win, that there probably isn't as much interest in the all-star games.

Especially since the best players tend to skip their senior season and SportsCenter replays everbody else's achievements ad nauseum.

Another big issue is the lack of star-quality that competes in these bowl games. The underclassmen that declare tend not to play in these post-season all-star games and then all the studs who have a good chance at getting drafted, try to avoid getting hurt by playing this game or are in heavy preparation for the NFL Combine and Pro Day workouts...

Another problem is that the Senior Bowl has become the marquee college all-star game and draws most of the big name seniors except those few elite names that usually don't attend sometimes.. Mobile sells out the senior bowl every year and the climate is better that time of year for the scouts and fans to participate in the week long fesitivities..
