UMASS - scholarships

How many scholarships has UMASS given out for the current season? Are they still at 63 or have they added more in anticipation of their transition to the MAC?

I believe we're around 70, but the extras mostly went to preferred walk-ons and a few extra freshmen. We didn't file for FBS status until two months after Letter of Intent day, so we couldn't do much recruiting for the extra spots. UMass probably wouldn't have bothered with extra scholarships at all, except that you can't satisfy the FBS two-year average minimum if you stay at 63. You need at least 68 the first year. So now some extra redshirts and guys who would have been on the team anyway are getting a free ride.

At a sport lunch I went to before the Holy Cross game coach said the team still has 101 players. We had 101 last year and continued to keep the 101 players for this season as well. Like above, we prob added players on scholarship who were walk ons but didnt recruit extra players this year.

Had UMass had only 63 full rides last year, or are they converting 15-20 partials into full rides?
