UCA falls short in game leading up to contest vs SHSU...
RUSTON, La. _ A career passing game for quarterback Nathan Dick and a career night from receiver Jesse Grandy were not enough to get the University of Central Bears past the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs (1-1) drove the length of the field to tie the game in the final minute, then won it in overtime, blocking UCA’s field goal attempt and scoring the game-winner on a 1-yard run by Lennon Creer for a 48-42 victory before a crowd of 20,652 at Joe Aiellet Stadium.
The Bears (1-1) had taken a 42-35 lead with just 2:08 remaining in regulation when senior safety Jerrel McKnight picked up a fumble and returned it 73 yards for a touchdown. But the Bulldogs got a 49-yard pass over the middle from Nick Isham to Quinton Patton to set up a game-tying 7-yard touchdown run by Ray Holley with just :58 to play.

The Bearkats have certainly had their money's worth of patience lately.
It's been more than week since Sam Houston opened the 2011 season, but later this week, the Kats can get back to brass tacks when they host Central Arkansas in their Southland Conference opener.
After a strong, efficient offensive effort, along with a dominating defensive performance against Western Illinois, conventional wisdom would suggest that the Kats would want to keep on going and that a bye week might have a negative effect on their momentum.

Just got back from the game and boy did we pound it on the ground tonight. Bell was 9-13 but didn't even have 100 yards passing.
Kats were in control when their QB got hurt. It was not a malicious hit but the refs made the right call with the personal foul. He had started the slide when our guy hit him.

UCA didnt lose the game because he got hurt... they lost the game because their defense couldnt stop the run.... Impressive win tonight!!

I know, I was putting that out there so it could not be used as an excuse. Their back-up played pretty well.

I think this win cements SHSU as a SLC title contender...
There were a lot of doubts regarding the Kats this year from others around the league, but based off this result and the fact that there really is no teams that have emerged from the pack, would put SHSU as a definite threat to McNeese and SFA for the title...
We'll see what happens from here...

It was a big win but it was only one game of many. Kind of early to pour concrete.

I am not saying we are cemented as the favorite by any means, but this definitely added more credibility to the fact that SHSU is in fact, a title contender. This was definitely a game that I had circled since it was the first SLC game and one against a team that was getting plenty of hype as nationally-ranked and coming off a close loss to a FBS.

To date we should be in the talk of title contenders but still to early to pin down a favorite.

Can't argue with that.

Can't argue with that.
I guess since Sam is the only team 1-0 in conference, they are a favorite for the title.
