Question... why isnt UMass in this poll at all?
superman7515
September 11th, 2011, 12:16 AM
Just my opinion... They fall behind Montana, but in front of the falling Jacksonville State (7 point loss to #14 > 21 point loss to #22), so probably not a lot of movement. How far does #1 EWU fall after losing to unranked South Dakota (Not SDSU for those voting). Villanova gives up the ghost and doesn't make the Top 25. If Sac State stays in due to their FBS win, Southern Utah has to be higher... Still plenty of early season shuffling.

Question... why isnt UMass in this poll at all?
UMass is transitioning to FBS and is not eligible for the FCS playoffs, is not eligible for the CAA regular season championship, and will finish with a league record of 0-0.

UMass is transitioning to FBS and is not eligible for the FCS playoffs, is not eligible for the CAA regular season championship, and will finish with a league record of 0-0.
But are still eligible for rankings and post season awards. UMass has no additional players this season and are playing a full FCS schedule. They are in the Sports Network poll.

Is UTSA transitioning into the WAC? Cause mcflurry state beat em :D
Using transitive theory, SFA would beat UTSA 112-6 (all 2pt conversions) and UNI would beat them 120-0 :P.

So far I have decided EWU dropped 6 spots just out of my top 10. NDSU dropped 1 spot, UNI hopped over them, GSU stays #1. USD makes an appearance above #25, and SDSU is #25 (I believe I had SDSU at 19 last week, without looking).
Im gonna do my poll tommorow.

I don't see too much change in my Top 25. Colgate is long gone but besides that i like what i see. I had Central Conn St. #25 and will keep them there.
I think the top 20 overall doesn't change much. The last 5 spots are basically a revolving door.

Bias aside i had Lehigh #14 and will drop them one or two spots. Nothing i saw from this weekend suggests they should take much of a hit.
They have another chance in two weeks to make a statement when Liberty comes calling.

Even though UNH just won AT Lehigh? xconfusedx Toledo almost beat Ohio St yesterday, so UNH getting run by them doesn't seem like it should really come into play.

Basically I think it was a pretty well discussed topic the Poll Committee as to what should be done and in the end they decided to defer to the CAA and NCAA route on the matter. If the CAA & NCAA think that UMass has some advantage that keeps them from winning or even playing for championships then we can abikde by that in the AGS Poll as well.

Are you on drugs?
ODU at 18 should be grounds to remove your voting rights. This is absurd, I oly hope a ballot like this is diluted by dozens of others that look at more than confernce affiliation and attendence when ranking teams.

I'll say this...ODU is more deserving for top 25 consideration than Sacramento State was last week and South Dakota this week. Not trying to take away from what they have done, but it was way premature to have Sac. State in the top 10 last week and ditto for South Dakota for this week.

Why?
Sac State beat a FBS team in week 1 and South Dakota beat the #1 FCS team this week. I'm not suggesting either Sac State or USD should be a top-10 team, but that are deserving of being in the ranked between 15-25
ODU has a win vs a non-scholly team that is horrible, and a 2nd year FCS startup that happens to play in an NFL stadium. ODU is doing it with window dressing right now. When they play Delaware in week 4, then we'll see how far they have come. ODU is a top 50 team right now, not a top-25 team.

Towson is the biggest surprise of the season so far. I don't care what teams have done in the past.
ODU has played well but we'll know more about them when they play UD at the Tub. If they beat UD, they'll solidify a remarkable season regardless of their final record.
All of this = the CAA is about as even as I can remember.

I think I have SUU higher. They lost by one point AT SDSU. Couple that with SUU's win, and SDSU not even making the trip, and I think that gives SUU a better resume at this point. These are the Top 25 after two weeks, SUU and SDSU might jump each other all season depending on who wins and loses.

Old Dominion and Towson not worthy at this point IMO. Villanova is VERY young this year. They lost a lot more than Sczur.
As the season moves on, the Towson win over VU will look less and less impressive. Nova should not be ranked.
Old Dominion has not played anyone of note yet - jury still out.
I think the CAA in general is down this year. Delaware did not look that impressive over Div II West Chester either.
But look out for URI and Maine. They could turn some heads this year.

This is why I don't like the practice of sliding teams up and down. EWU could end up 0-3 and still be ranked because people just slid them down a few slots every time they lose.
Villanova was still ranked after Temple killed them. Now people want to rank Towson for beating a "ranked" team, when in reality, Towson is probably not a Top 25 team, just better than Nova.

Depends on how things go down. A close loss at Montana, with USD and UW making decent showings, I could see.
If Montana wins by >7, I might have a hard time keeping them in. I plan on watching the game, so I guess that should help me gauge EWU.
