Been approved by the Board of Regents. Now it needs to be funded. It might be a while, but in the mean time its cool to think about.

I love the huge HD screen - no doubt from Daktronics. Maybe they'll just donate it?
Great looking plans. Hope this can be built out in the next 10 years, rather than later. Also hope the plans include artificial turf. The grass at SDSU is just no good later in the year.

Any word on the seating capacity? It isn't mentioned in the article.

Donation would be real nice! I can't remember when they installed the board on the south side if it was a donation or not, I want to say that it wasn't. I'm still bent on the Turf vs. Grass war. Part of me loves the grass but at the same time you're right, by the end of the season its in rough shape.
The indoor practice facility, according to the plans, will come before the stadium renovation.

Call me a skeptic, but I don't see any way in hell that Brookings SD can fill up a 20,000 seat football stadium 6 times a year...

20k won't be much of a problem with that nice of a stadium, especially with a half way decent team. If the Jacks can average 13.5k with a playoff team in a stadium that only seats 10k, they shouldn't have a problem with 20k on a decent team and seating for everyone.
It's important to remember how easy of drive it is from Sioux Falls (200k+ metro) to Brookings (45 minute all interstate), and having a nice stadium would only increase the likelihood of making the trip. Though I will give you that November games could hurt overall attendance due to the weather.

I just don't see what was wrong with CAS as is. ;)
But in all seriousness that looks sweet. It would be great if they could get that done in the next 5 years. Huge step for the Jacks!! Must be that new AD Justin Sell!

The reason for the 20,000+ stadium is because this will be in place for the next 50 years.
Brookings might not be able to support it in 2012, but they need to plan for the future and with the steady increase in attendance, enrollment and population it would come in handy 10 years down the road.
I wouldn't be surprised if they build it to 15,000 with the option to add in 5,000-10,000 later.

It looks like the endzone seats about 3-5k...so it is likely they could leave that as a berm for now...and build out as needed.

You mean you don't want to pull a fargo and build an undersized stadium that you can't build out later?

Oh my...it is education day. ;) They are digging into the ground based on that picture, which is standard because it is cheaper to dig down then build up.
So...a grass berm will be the result if they don't build the endzone stands and building.

You obviously didn't see Dane's junior high girlfriend. They grow em young over this way. All the steroids in the Purdue chicken.

Looks like a great stadium. Good luck with getting it built, maybe the economy will recover enough UD/SDSU can finally make the return trip happen.

You can thank John Lindgren for that one.

The stadium is strictly up. No digging. The stadium site is just out of the floodplain, is not much above the sand gravel surficial aquifer. Hence, that's all going up rather than any berms.
