Anyone Else Think the Maryland Uniforms are Horrible?

I couldn't believe my eyes the other night when I turned on the Maryland/Miami game. I thought I was watching the circus. Terps unis look like clown outfits from Barnum Bailey. I understand the 'unique' design incorporating the state flag, but I think the designer went overboard and jumped the shark on this one.

Anyway I like the jerseys, but the helmets are a little too much. Maybe a white helmet with smaller state flag and an M logo would've looked better.

The Maryland Terrapins have been receiving a lot of attention following Monday's home opener against the Miami Hurricanes. The game ended in a 32-24 win for the Terps. But, the result paled to the reception of Maryland's uniforms.

Designed by Under Armour and dubbed "Pride", the Terps' uniforms invoked the Maryland state flag from head to toe. Whether the design was inspired or abhorrent, credit had to be given for the uniqueness of the getup.

Or maybe not.

One segment of Maryland was less than impressed with the new threads. Perhaps because they had worn them first. The Charm City Roller Girls All-Stars, a roller derby team based in Baltimore, has been wearing helmets strikingly similar to those worn by Maryland football for three years....

I liked them. I mean..how many schools do you see actually doing anything with their state flag? I don't see Texas wearing the Lone Star flag on their helmet. I mean..atleast SFA puts the state of Texas on their helmets.

Ugly or not, they did what they were meant to do and that was bring attention to the UMD program.

Special and retro uniforms are nice for special occasions. These were excellent.
