Saw that COSIDA will be having a workshop at their annual meetings in Nashville this summer on "Facebook.com and other internet problems facing the SID." What are your thoughts on this subject?

Obviously Facebook.com provides some unrestricted access to student-athletes, whether it's the fact that the student-athlete is posting personal information (phone number, e-mail, etc) that individuals (like the media) may not have had access to if they weren't posted.

You'll also have student-athletes posting pictures which may not be appropriate that can get out there (i.e underage drinking) and then posting information about coaches, other players, teams, etc that could help (talking about injuries or become locker room material) as sites like MySpace.com also double as a 'blog'.

What else is there? Thought it was interesting to see a workshop like this planned for their annual meeting.

Tell the student-athletes not to be morons. It's honestly so simple to not post your phone or email... and as for banter.. well that's just stupid.

Just tell the coaches to make sure each athlete doesn't have contact info. posted or intimidating, taunting material... end of problem...

Opposing schools can't even view your profile on facebook unless you have them listed as a friend... maybe that's a myspace issue, where everyone can view anyone, but not facebook.

Myspace is the one to be worried about. I've used it to get dirt on the better players on a team. Mainly just a girlfriend's name or something like that.

I've gone on there at times to check on things, especially of athletes that I know personally, but I do not make that information available out of respect for the athletes. Some things which have been asked on our board, I've at times found on Facebook, but that information should not be public, atleast through that manner, so I keep my mouth shut...

college kids shouldnt be on myspace...its just full of skany 15 year old girls and "emo" guys...but facebook yeah its just common sense...its not this "private" network you have...anyone with your schools email address can see it so if ya think talking **** about a coach or posting pictures of you getting stoned isnt going to bite you in the ass later you might want to rethink that...just like when people graduate the common sense thing to do is clean up your profiles on places such as facebook like removing the pot and alcoholic groups and taking down embarassing pictures before you go apply for jobs or the more ambitious like running for a campaign...same for athletes if ya dont want anyone outside the team to know something facebook isnt the place to put it

I've been involved with Myspace since close to when it first started (January 04), before it was taken over by 14 year old sluts and goofy haired fags.

And if they post something on the internet, I think it's fair game. It's their own fault for posting something if they don't want anyone to know about it.

I'd glady give someone my myspace because I don't have anything to hide on there.

I don't see what the big deal is about myspace. It's kinda lame. I signed up and hardly use it.. I have two friends that I have already on facebook. No real difference from facebook, except all can see.

I remember when CCU Played Mansfield, they were sending our players messages on Facbook saying how they know they'll lose but want to hurt as many of our players as possible and other bull*****

Facebook seems a little safer to me. Don't you have to be a "friend" with someone to access their profile? Other than that, you can only see a picture and their school

No, generally you can see anybody's profile at your school and all of your friends' profiles at other schools. It's possible though to restrict access of your profile only to your friends.

Are you serious? That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Were they drunk? Why would you provoke a team that you know is going to kil you anyways?
