BUIES CREEK, N.C. - An athletic department committee and a group from other segments of the school are suggesting that Campbell University re-establish a football program.
The school hasn't had a football team since the 1950s, when it was a two-year school.
The study groups say they see a prospect of a significant and positive impact and that it's a timely point in the school's history resume a football program.
With the endorsement comes the understanding that the program would compete as a non-scholarship sport in N-C-A-A Division One-double-A.xlolx That would allow Campbell to retain its Division One status in other sports.
Campbell currently belongs to the Atlantic Sun Conference, which has no football championship. The university would have to get an associate tie with another conference in football.
