If you have atleast a half a brain in your head you know the SoCon would crap all over themselves if they thought Charlotte would actually agree to full membership.
I'll bet you 6 rolls of toilet paper the SoCon begs to differ

App State is not the SoCon. We are a part of the SoCon, sure, but if you look at the direction the conference has been heading in for some time, you'll see that schools like App State and Georgia Southern are the exception, not the rule. The growth strategy adopted by the conference has been tending away from relatively big state institutions like yours and ours and toward smaller private schools. Last three schools out: ETSU, VMI, Marshall. Last three (football) schools in: Samford, Elon, Wofford.
This is a big part of why plenty of folks from App and GSU are antsy to leave the conference. If App and GSU aren't a part of the SoCon's long game, why would UNCC be?

Maybe UNCC is like Georgia State. I have lived my entire life in Georgia (outside of the four years at Furman) and I have known a grand total of 1 person that has a bachelors degree from Georgia State (and I met her three months ago).

Delusions of grandeur is pretty subjective, so I'll leave that alone, but calling App a trade school is a clear cut untruth. It's a undergrad centered university in a college town. Students have a very strong emotional attachment. Trade schools churn out thousands of grads with no love for their school. Sound familiar?

There is ONE difference... Charlotte has a CAMPUS!!! Georgia State is a patchwork conglomerate of rented floors of different sky-rises in Midtown, 5-points area. They have no true campus. They even rented their football home. If Georgia State closed its doors tomorrow... no one would even know there was once a school in Midtown Atlanta.

If there is no strong emotional attachment then maybe you could explain to me how there are so many of us "delusional fans." 2 of our basketball games is your student population. What are they? apathetic trade students? Where are your fans when football season is out? oh yeah, Chapel Hill, rootin for them holes!
It seems to me that you want to have your cake and eat it too. UNCC- the most delusional, ridiculous, fact ignoring, rabid fans, that don't care at all about their school spirit or sports so much that everyone around campus has App stickers. I love it.
I want to play too. Last time I was at App I saw like 30 times the amount of Charlotte stickers. There was one App sticker in the whole city. The rest of Boone was strangely covered with green and white. Pictures of Norm were everywhere. Trust me guys, I commute by there every day so you know I can't be lying. Oh yeah, and I'm not biased. Wait! There's a college in Boone? I didn't even know they were Mountaineers. I assumed that was WVU.

Oh man, I can tell I really got to somebody after reading that incoherent rant. Double your bball game attendance is our student population? Well hey our football attendance is twice our student population, so I guess that puts you in your place. You can't even fill your bball venue (while playing teams that your ACC loyal fanbase has heard of as opposed to football where your students will not) and you expect to compete with an App stadium that draws weekly crowds in the 30 thousands? Yes. Delusions of grandeur indeed. I have never, in my four years of school nor any time visiting, seen a UNCC sticker in Boone, though I realize your sarcasm there I just wanted to point that out. I recall a GaSo fan posting something about that earlier this year. Since you're so new to football I'll explain that GaSo and App are bitter rivals and would disagree on most points (He's not biased!!). Anyway, the poster noted that his son, also an avid GaSo fan, took an internship in Charlotte. He said his son really liked the city, but he couldn't get over how many App sticker/t-shirts he saw. He said they seemed to be everywhere, even more common that UNC. Deny, Deny, Deny. That will certainly make you feel better, but without an independent study I can't remove all reasonable doubt. So we can agree to disagree about what every Charlottian knows, but alumni from Concord seem to wishfully overlook. To say that an App student roots for UNC in football is asinine. We may have that problem for basketball (UNCC has the same problem on the same scale), but App students/alums love App football and nothing else of the like. You can keep talking up your bball attendance too with half the seats empty. We have nothing to brag about as far a bball attendance either, but we have a football stadium that's at 150% capacity every home game. 30 thousand people have never and will never attend a UNCC home game in any sport. That is the point. Your crown jewel=7k ours=30. How could you possibly argue that you have more support? oh yeah that's right, a lack-luster education from a glorified community college has left you adept at argumentation and reasoning skills.

49rFN......the guy (AppHole) is hopeless. he exaggerates everything related to his school on the WAY overly positive side and does the exact opposite when he talks about Charlotte. For example, he talks as if UNC-Tweetsie always has crowds in the "30s", when in fact they've had what, 2 crowds both barely over 30,000 assuming those were even accurate counts. I mean, if their AD expected those crowds every game wouldn't he want to expand that 21,000 seat stadium with actual seats for all those people. Maybe they're not quite as confident as he is.
As for our crowds, we've had numerous crowds for bball of 11,000+ before Halton was ever built and many sellouts in Halton. Its hard to put more than 9105 in an arena that seats 9105. He also apparently has a crystal ball because he KNOWS we'll "never have 30,000" people for any of our sporting events.......He is sort of funny, but awkwardly sad at the same time. I mean, he is so obviously defensive about his great school/team that he has to try and belittle/exaggerate negatively about Charlotte at every opportunity.
I know this though, in the only MAJOR sport that we both play (until 2013 atleast) we outdraw them about 2:1 (conservative figure) on average. Its hard to compare their football attendance with ours since we haven't played a game yet. I think he will be surprised at our football crowds from day 1.

Dude, please. The biggest problem about playoff football is that the first round is ALWAYS on Thanksgiving weekend. The school have to make special arrangements for the dorms to stay open, food, etc. Plus, everyone wants to go home and eat mom's good cooking. It is a tough problem for schools.

I shouldn't add to the p$$ing match......But in all honestly.....73,000 Appy alums live in North Carolina with a good majority living within close proximity to the university. You're telling me these tens of thousands are too lazy to make a short drive to see a first round playoff game a couple days after Thanksgiving?

I don't think it's laziness, it is the fact that many of those alumni are out of town for Thanksgiving. Those that aren't have about a week's notice to leave their family on Thanksgiving to see a football game that they can watch at home on ESPN.

OK buddy.....we'll see. I can make a prediction of the future myself. We will have MUCH better attendance than you think. You are really selling our fanbase short. We already have what will amount to a "built-in" crowd of 12,000+ (between FSLs already sold and student seating, which will definitely be used up). Time will tell though, I'm sure you think I'm wrong and I think you're wrong.

I think the challenge for y'all will not be selling tickets and filling the stadium initially, it will be KEEPING it full. There is hype around the program and the UNCC alumni have wanted football for a long time, so the fans will show up initially. However, being a start-up program, it will be difficult to have a winning team if you plan to schedule decent competition. If the fans weather those first couple of rough seasons and the program's recruiting and on-field performance pick up, I see no reason you shouldn't be able to draw a good crowd. Like with any new endeavor, there is a lot of "if'" involved, so only time will tell how it plays out.

Do you really think UNCC will become a football school? It is a school with no history in the sport and one with a strong basketball tradition. It is located in a basketball mad state in the heart of ACC country. And football will suddenly become the athletic department's flagship program? UAB started their football program 20 years ago and it still lags behind the basketball team in terms of support and public interest.

Don't need to. We've got no problem with attendance at the "premium" seat level. No need to force feed a guarantee of "arses in seats" policy down big money alumni throats. We do sell'em $1000 a seat last I checked, with a minimum of 10 for a box (that's annual + Eagle Fund contribution).

You must be rich if you'd walk away from a $2000+ (few would buy just 1 seat) for a losing season or two. I think the folks like me who bought FSLs aren't that fickle. There's no hidden issue over FSLs. Our dumb-*** Chancellor wanted to try to kill the football effort and had it blow up in his face. He listened to some of the folks who helped the Panthers with their PSLs back in the early 90's and took their advice over what his own athletics department was telling him. Most of the folks in our AD wanted to do something in the $500 range donation for priority season ticket seating. Depending on the number of FSLs purchased or the level of FSL held there are annual minimum donations to the athletic fund required.

Alabama has a program called Tide Pride. Not really sure how it works, but basically you have to give a bunch of money up front to be able to buy tickets. There is some sort of point system based on how much you give and how long you've been a member that determines where you can sit and where you can park.
Still confused as how ticket brokers get all those tickets when you have to fork over a bunch of cash just to buy tickets.

ASU does this. I have to donate at least $250 each year to the Yosef Club to buy my season seats (around the 25 yard line). As you get closer to mid-field the minimum becomes $500 (all bleachers). This is true on both the East and West stands. In addition we have "Gold Level" seating (individual gold chairs with backs) up high at mid-field which requires a higher donation. Then, of course, we have the club level seats and the suites. ASU also has a point system that factors in amount donated, cummulative amount donated, and years of donations. This system and yearly donation amount determine your parking spot.
I believe this system has been in place for 3-4 years...I've had my same seats for 6 years and they didn't always require a donation.

It's not like UNCC has very many fans, how many 9'ers actually post on here? 3 or 4? So you got a handful of envious homers with no team. Just ignore then until they have a football team and maybe they'll shut up, that's a long time between now and then to not be acknowledged.

Uh, have you been to Boone........Possibly the ugliest "mountain town" I've ever seen.
Yah, seriously. I wish you'd tell all the tourists that come here for the scenery that it's ugly.

Actually, if you read the post, I was responding to him saying the school has been the same since the 80's. Those are just a few of our recent additions.

That's an animated picture that depicts the perimeter of your campus as concrete and smog.
I think you're smart enough to know that that area you call "smog" is greyed out on purpose because its not part of campus property, but you went to App so I could be wrong about your intelligence level. Concrete can usually be found near places where human beings like to make their homes. xrolleyesx
Both images above are taken from 16,000 feet. Looks like both campuses have lots of greenery. Perhaps we can get back to football smack now? xpeacex

No, they come for the "mountains" not for the "town of Boone". Surely you know this.

Trees. No trees. Great school. Crap school.
None of it amounts to a hill of beans in the discussion of who has the better ball team.
If you haven't played a game yet, you should probably do that a few times before you start crowing, no?
