First Semifinal in the books, and the Boston College Eagles are going to Saturday night's National Championship Game. The Eagles topped North Dakota in a 6-5 game that quickly changed from the goaltending duel that was expected. Chris Collins, BC's Hobey Baker finalist, tallied a Hat Trick as the Eagles are back in the title game for the first time since beating the Sioux for the title in 2001.

didn't know Maine was so lousy being short-handed...

I don't follow this during regular season as we don't have any major hockey programs around here. Lehigh is a club team, as are a few of the other local schools. Bears definitely have troubles. Wisconsin could, should have put this game away. Psych. boost for Maine to still be in it.

News from Friday at the Frozen Four:

Some controversy at the Skills Competition allows Colgate's Allison Paiano to score the winning goal in the tiebreaking shootout. The Eastern Team was awarded an extra shot in the shootout, allowing them to tie before Paiano won it with a goal in the 6th attempt. Other I-AA competitors included Colgate's Kyle Wilson, Harvard's Jennifer Raimondi and John Daigneau.

Defensemen Matt Carle of Denver won the 26th Hobey Baker Award. The junior, now playing for San Jose in the NHL, lead the nation in assists with 42 and lead all defensemen in points with 53. The other two finalists, Brian Elliot of Wisconsin and Chris Collins of Boston College, will have to console themselves by playing tonight for the National Championship.

Congratulations to the Wisconsin Badgers, the 2006 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Champions!

Defenseman Tom Gilbert scored on the powerplay with 9:32 remaining in the 3rd Period to send Wisconsin to a 2-1 victory and their 6th National Championship. Frozen Four MOP Robbie Earl got the other Badger goal, tying the game at 1 in the 2nd Period after BC's Pat Gannon gave the Eagle's a 1-0 lead in the 1st. Wisconsin goalie Brian Elliot finished the tournament having only given up 3 goals in 4 games, an outstanding performance. Congrats also to the Eagles for an outstanding and unexpected run through the Tournament, and also to fellow I-AA school Maine.

And that was all she wrote. See you in October hockey fans!
