Six defensive backs with injuries helped the Kats QBs take advantage of the defense with some very nice scoring drives by the Kats offense. Andrew Audelin had a good game in the backfield for the Kats as he's taking over the reigns of #1 RB...

HUNTSVILLE -- Sam Houston State's top three quarterbacks combined to throw for 154 yards and four touchdowns to highlight an hour long, 55-play scrimmage to complete the second week of spring drills for the Bearkat football team.

Wade Pate completed six of eight passes for 57 yards including touchdowns of 15 and 11 yards to Michael Malone. Phillip Daugherty hit five of nine attempts for 69 yards including a 30-yard touchdown strike to Brandon Perry and a seven yard scoring play to Blake Martin. Noah Allen hit four of seven passes for 28 yards and ran for a 29 yard score.

"We have six defensive backs out with injuries right now, so that passing statistics are a little deceptive, but when we had the number one offense and defense playing against each other, we saw some good things," Sam Houston State head coach Todd Whitten said.

The head coach was particularly pleased with the play of senior running back Andrew Audelin. The Bearkats graduated all three of their running backs from the 2005 team and, Audelin, a junior college transfer who saw limited action last season, appears ready to step in.

Still too early to tell but hopefully things are going as well as TW says they are.

Scrimmage i was there looked good for the first scrimmage some rust and, with out the starting DB's it’s hard to see what the QB's can do.

They have depth in the QB spot but are they going to have a sporting cast? Very hard for me to tell right now, and can they find a leader for the team this year because last year there was not one.
