Bart Crader? What's the word on this kid, Pokes? He going to be a strong QB for the Pokes for years to come? Where will he stand? Seems no QB really stood out for you guys as they try to round into form. That's not good, not when you have so many weapons to hit. Quentin Lawrence had another score today and of course, I'm really high on him as one of the better WRs in the league along with Steven Whitehead, another McNeese WR, who also scored.

Cowboys put forth physical effort during Friday's football scrimmage
Spring game scheduled for next Thursday in Cowboy Stadium

March 31, 2006

McNeese State head football coach Tommy Tate called his team's second scrimmage of the spring a "very physical display."

The Cowboys went through an hour and a half workout in Cowboy Stadium on Friday and both the offense and the defense had their moments.

Touchdowns were scored by the offense but only one came on a sustained drive of 50 yards.

"I thought that the defense did a good job of tackling today," Tate said. "And, I thought that the offense did a good job in the red zone."

Freshman Bart Crader teamed up with Dayton Landry for the only touchdown of a sustained nature in the workout. They got together on a 28 yard pass, culminating a drive that had started at midfield.

You can't make any judgements on the Qb's by looking at those stats from today's scrimmage.

They have been playing Mark Fontenot just one series in the beginning and then he sits out until late in the scrimmage when they start working on the 25 yard line in. Fontenot has looked sharp in both scrimmages.

They are giving a lot of work to the guy running second team right, highly touted freshman, Derrick Fourroux. And he has looked very good for a first year player. He can thow hard (not as pretty a sprial as Fontenot) and can run the ball. They have run a little option with him in the scrimmages. He is the one you need to watch out for in the future.

There were two reasons for the lack of passing stats today. One reason was that they seemed to be working a lot on the running game in this scrimmage and there was a very high wind blowing adversely affecting the passing game.

Fourroux is pictured below:
