Finish off the other side, and its probably a no-contest.

Couldn't help but notice there were a lot of empty seats in that video. Do these people not know Chattanooga is the epicenter of college football? I mean they're really messing up by missing this on those fall weekends. You should get the word out, but do they allow public outings from the mental facility?

Can you say FBS?
It looks nice, but I still say Princeton is best overall. The exterior appearance of Bridgeforth looks ok.
Princeton's double deck rings the entire stadium and seats 35k.
If this were 2004, you'd definetely be hosting Lehigh.

Can you say FBS?
There's no immediate plan to move to FBS, but it's pretty clear that this expansion was performed to position us for a move if the opportunity arises. From a recent article that included an interview with our AD:
The expansion positions JMU in case it ever wants to jump to the Football Bowl Subdivision. Capacity could be increased to about 40,000 by wrapping the stands around to the east side. But Bourne said the FBS "is really not on the radar screen at this point."
"There are a lot of things going on in the NCAA with regard to the whole future of FCS, FBS," he said. "The bottom line is to be the absolute best program in the FCS right now, head to toe. Best facilities, we end up doing well every year and getting into the playoffs, that's the goal.
"If we can do that, we've postured ourselves where we need to be with regard to the big picture. Who knows? If something down the road were to change and we were to decide to look in (the FBS) direction, we would at least be poised for it. You can't start facilities when those kinds of discussions take place. You have to methodically work your way through and do what's right."

I know a lot of our fans believe that the university is using the 2012 game against WVU at FedEx Field as a test of DC-area fan support. It's possible that we could follow the UMass model and schedule a big BCS game at FedEx each year, while playing our other home games at Bridgeforth. Harrisonburg-DC and Amherst-Foxborough are both ~2 hour drives.

Exactly why everyone is thinking FBS move, just like UMass is in the process of doing. Although, given that it's $60M for what has been done, maybe another $30M to finish it, would anyone think almost $100M can be justified in the MAC/CUSA/Sun Belt, etc.? That being said, some may question $60M to stay in FBS... :)

Yeah hopefully we can attain that level of crowd involvement someday. Right now all we have is a little tunnel run and a crowd that limps in at somewhere around an ESPN decibel meter rating of 120 or so and that was with 4K less seats than we have now.

Did you know that the loudest human scream ever recorded is 129 dba. Meaning that if someone screams directly in your ear. It is going to sound louder than 100,000 people screaming around you in a stadium atmosphere. This is how ridiculous and down right absurd these fictional decibel ratings in college football stadiums are.

Ok then it must have been about 150 then cuz it's louder than anything before...ever.

It was during the UNH game I think in 2004 and it was a sideline reporter with a decibel meter down on their sideline measuring it. I'm sure it's on the game video if you know where to find those cuz I know you seem to be good at locating some of those types of things for fellow fans to take a gander at.

Oh boy, here we go again. JMU's stadium was built by the school under their own leadership, not rented out for 3 hours. Bridgeforth is decked out in their colors and ALWAYS represents JMU, not whoever pays for it by the hour. JMU's stadium is completely theirs and a symbol of what they can dream and build. Well, to be fair to us, NDSU does not own the Fargodome, but we are the stadium's number one tenant and the stadium's biggest moneymaker, also the Dome is located on NDSU's campus.

In other stadium news - SBU seems dead set on expansion up to ~25K, which was what the original phase plan for LaValle was. No timetable, probably heavily dependent on filling what we have now. Would kill for it to have half the atmosphere of what I'm reading about here though. Baby steps...

Not trying to turn this into a smack thread. But like others have said it is a greatly exaggerated home side, it looks like the grandstand of a NASCAR track. As far as the GA Dome goes it is owned by the State of Georgia, so the Falcons rent it too.

Yeah we got all that. It was built to house them therefore they can say it's there because of them. It's not something Atlanta would have built for GA State. That's a place you guys had no stake in creating and it's funny that you think you can take some sort of "we did this" attitude in comparing it to other's who actually did "do this".

A real on campus stadium built by an actual university to repesent them 100% trumps a commercial center rented by the hour. A true "home" as in "we don't get kicked out after 9pm" is the soul of a college program. You can't keep trying to compare a multi-use arena to a college-first home field.

As a pro-stadium, probably. As a college facility...they still play bowl games in the Superdome, which is 40 years old. BTW. The Falcons will probably build a new stadium on the northside of town within the next 5 years, then we will be the only tenant.

I agree having an "on campus" facility can be important to a college football program. But it also can be a limitation. The Dome gives us almost unlimited potential for growth. There isn't a FCS or even a BCS facility, that compares to the luxury suites, ad space, surface quality, training, medical facilities and retail opportunities at the dome. Hell I can't even get a beer at most of y'all's stadiums, and I get to sip mine in rainless 72 degree weather all season long.

Sounds like you would prefer an arena league team to a college one then. Also, if you think its impossible to drink in a stadium and having your own home is a limitation, you don't understand what makes college football great.

It really is amazing how G-State fans can summarize their own ignorance so well and still not get it.

Good thing glsjunior didn't want this to "turn into a smack thread." So, let me get this straight...when the Falcons leave Da Dome, State will become the "only tenant?" The article below projects that the Georgia Dome would lose 1.5 million dollars a year without pro football. 52% of the Dome's operational revenue comes from the Falcons. The Dome's operating budget for fiscal year 2011 is $55 million. Is State going to pick up that lost revenue? Are your fans going to occupy 203 luxury suites and 5,600 club suites? Could Georgia State University fans be more delusional? "Only tenants?" 15-20,000 fans for five or six Saturdays a year is going to bankroll a $55,000,000.00 budget? Even if Da Dome keeps SuperCross, Chick-fil-a Bowl, a few concerts, and pro wrestling, it will NEVER make $55 mil.

Also, when JMU plays WVU at FedEx stadium for one night in 2013, they will once again be the rightful owners of the best FCS stadium. (rolling eyes)

The Georgia World Congress Authority (the body who runs the dome) has no plans to tear down the Georgia Dome. How it will make its money in the future is uncertain. But I'm guessing in part that they are hoping we will be FBS by 2017.

Can we get back to something relevant to the FCS world?
JMU did a great job planning this expansion out and allowing for future seating if necessary, well done!

I hear the FFD is going to look like Laker basketball games this year with the new lighting. The stands area will be darker but the field will be lit up like the 4th of July. I guess there's going to be "dramatic lighting" in there.
It's a new $1.5 million lighting system though, so I trust they will use it wisely.
Lights are expensive to get installed...I'm glad you finally are getting lights set up though.
Just remember, it's most expensive to get lights started and after that adding on is cheaper.
Most of that 1.5 is going to getting the place wired and framed for lights.

Tulane would disagree with you....

More like we're the boy toy who lives in the mansion of the cougar chick I'm doing, while you live in your girlfriend's efficiency eating Ramen noodles, on a cable spool for a table. But you're in "love".
How'd your Cougar like it when Lambuth came over for dinner, and scarfed up everything she'd prepared for you, banged her until she couldn't walk, and then didn't even kiss her on the way out? ;)

frankly I think JMU had a better atmosphere than UTC...Id put UTC third behind JMU and ASU
But I'm guessing you mean for a championship game, when UTC wasn't playing?

The new Bridgeforth looks nice. I'm more a fan of stadiums built from concrete/stone/brick (like Franklin Field, Fitton, or Delaware Stadium) but for a modern design this one is good. It looks a bit lopsided now, but leaving room for expansion seems like a smart move.

I gotta disagree. We've got a lot of improvements left. Especially on the old home side. We'll be up to par when a move to FBS comes around in about 10 years.

I dont know if you meant that as a joke but really looking at video of UTC and ASU and JMU (I was in the hospital when the band went to Harrisonburg) Id say that for a regular game, Id put ASU first, JMU second and UTC third. Liberty's atmosphere still has some work to do (although when they can really get the place full, the "L-U" chant is rockin during pregame)
