Glad to see Prairie View A&M take over the event. Heard from members of the local media in Houston that the NCAA refused to return to Houston for the NCAA bowling championships were run by Texas Southern. Houston really does need to get NCAA championships here and it was disheartening that the NCAA was upset with TxSo, but atleast they could get a deal together with Prairie View A&M.

And how do HBCs dominate the sport? Nebraska has won two national titles and will probably win a third. Isn't second place, "first loser"? There's no HBCUs in the top five.

The only thing that HBCs dominate is the fact they have more than half of the schools (30+ of the 48 schools) that sponsor bowling are HBCUs. Many of the PWCs that sponsor are Div II schools that got the 'bump' up to Div I because it's an "emerging sport".

Just being honest. No one participates in the sport just yet, though it is the best chance an HBCU team has a chance at a Div I national title (and it seems that is agreed upon by folks on SWAC Page from that 'easiest sport to compete' thread). They've had some great folks compete in track (that girl from TxSo in the sprints last year), but as a team, this is the best chance because of the amount of HBCUs compared to the "total field". Maybe if Title IX sports continue to be added at schools, you'll see them add bowling and make for some more competition. But for now, MEAC, SWAC and CIAA are the only three conferences that sponsor bowling with everyone else truly being independents (no multiple participants from other athletic conferences).

Equestrian is the next big sport on the way up too! :)

I didn't know that Vanderbilt belles were allowed in bowling alleys. Maybe they removed the beer and brought in a wine and cheese bar. But even then, wouldn't those big old bowling balls scratch or break their nails - is the team trainer a manicurist.
