TOLEDO - Stanley Clayton and former Rocket Mark Rhea were added to the coaching staff at the University of Toledo, UT head coach Tom Amstutz announced today. Clayton will assume the offensive line coach position vacated by Mike Devlin last month, while Rhea will take over the defensive line coach post previously held by Randall McCray.

Amstutz also announced that tight ends coach Chris Hedden will assume additional duties as the running game coordinator.

Rhea, a four-year starter at defensive end for the Rockets from 1988-91, spent the last six seasons on the football coaching staff at Idaho State. During his tenure at Idaho State, Rhea coached a defensive line that had all four linemen earn All-Big Sky honors four years in a row and also produced Division I-AA’s top defensive player, two-time All-American Jared Allen, in 2003.

In all, Rhea’s players earned 22 all-conference honors, including eight First Team All-Big Sky picks, and seven Academic All-Big Sky selections. Additionally, Allen received the Buck Buchanan Award as the nation’s top defensive player and was drafted in the fourth round by the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.

Prior to his stint at Idaho State, Rhea was on the staff at Austin Peay State University and before that he coached at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
