Encourage fans of the SWAC to post stories previewing the season, get some press out there on your squads...
Alabama A&M Starting QB update...
Deaunte Mason still has the upper hand on David Isabelle for the starting quarterback job, Alabama A&M coach Anthony Jones said.
Isabelle, Jones said, has improved since the spring, but hasn't improved enough to overtake Mason.

Even these days, after the Southern football team finishes off a long practice in gruesome conditions, Brandon Rice often bounces through the hallways of the A.W. Mumford Field House with an ear-to-ear grin.
No relief from the heat? No relief from preseason camp? No end in sight to team meetings and film sessions? No problem. At least, that’s the kind of attitude teammates often see from Rice.

Saturday morning, near the end of Southern’s third practice of preseason football camp, coach Stump Mitchell was disgusted - not with players or their effort, but himself.
During team drills, Mitchell made a mistake with a detail in one of his play-calls.
Junior wideout Charles Hawkins was the first to correct him.

Jared Green spent four years at the University of Virginia, earning his bachelor’s degree in anthropology. To him, it was the only major that made perfect sense.

Any of the teams in the SWAC had some heat-related issues?
Was baking in the sun for about 90 minutes at a ground breaking ceremony and came back to read that the heat index was 106 where I was at. Can't be much cooler in Baton Rouge!

Jaguars’ road trip
The Southern University football team got a little taste of the NFL on Tuesday as the Jaguars, after a morning workout on campus, took the bus to Metairie to take in the Saints’ workout.
Coach Stump Mitchell, his coaching staff and the 95-man squad intently watched the 2-1/2-hour workout.
The workout was held outdoors despite a brief shower that passed through at the outset of practice.
“I wanted to give our guys an opportunity to see the Saints because we do some of the things they do on offense and defense,” said Mitchell, who put his players through their first full-pads practice Tuesday.

Green’s photo op
After practice, the Jaguars got to meet the Saints as they left the field.
SU wide receiver Jared Green, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Darrell Green, talked with 5-foot-6 Saints running back Darren Sproles before the two posed for a photo.
The meeting was significant because Jared Green’s father, who played 20 NFL seasons at cornerback despite being just 5-8, admired Sproles’ tenacity when he entered the league in 2004.

Our boys are kinda used to this. I don't think we've had any heat related issues, yet.

Thought Tulane's were too... a Saint Aug grad passed out while practicing with the Green Wave this past week.
