Rhicmond Times Dispatch (http://www2.timesdispatch.com/sports/2011/aug/09/5/state-basketball-teams-play-coliseum-doubleheader--ar-1227496/)

On Wednesday morning at the Coliseum, the governor’s office will announce a pair of doubleheaders involving state teams, one in December 2012 and another in December 2013. The University of Virginia in 2012 will meet Old Dominion University, and in 2013, Virginia Tech will play Virginia Commonwealth University. The Hokies and Rams haven’t met since the 1994-95 season.

Also, the University of Richmond and George Mason will meet in 2012. James Madison University will play Hampton University in 2013.

Athletic administrators and coaches at the participating eight schools were asked by the governor’s office not to discuss the doubleheaders until Wednesday morning’s formal announcement. There is no plan at this time for the doubleheaders to continue beyond 2013, though that’s possible if U.Va. and Virginia Tech remain committed.

I like that... I wish the government didnt have to step in but it is good for everyone if the state schools big and small played each other...

If Gov. Jindal sees this as a way to help him get to be President, he'll have only in-state games allowed for Louisiana colleges, except LUS of course. They got all the lawyers in the legislature.

I would enjoy seeing more games between in-state schools, particularly in football, basketball and baseball. I do not think you would necessarily find willing partners since LSU would not want to travel more than it has to in any of those sports. Afterall, baseball hits what - two different spots in the state every year? I do not think football would be opposed to rotating who they hosted, but they won't even play in the Superdome against Tulane despite the sweetheart of a deal they used to have...

That's L, S, and U for you. But they are the big dog with the crumbs to toss.
