MANKATO, Minn — Minnesota Vikings quarterback Rhett Bomar has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

The Vikings picked up the 26-year-old quarterback in late December from the New York Giants practice squad. He was a 15th pick of the fifth round in the 2009 draft after playing two seasons at Sam Houston State.

Blue Earth County Jail spokeswoman Amber Carlson says Bomar was booked about 5:15 a.m. Sunday on third-degree driving while intoxicated.

If you recall, this is the same QB that was "excused" from the Oklahoma Sooners program for "employment timesheet discrepancies"

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops dismissed starting quarterback Rhett Bomar and his roommate, offensive lineman J.D. Quinn, on Aug. 2 after the university's compliance staff uncovered the violations. After the dismissals, Stoops said that Bomar and Quinn "knowingly" broke the rules.

Huh? No, I just think it's so sad how some people throw away their chances when they get it. xsmhx

it is ironic, that the day before on the SHSU fan site someone was giving Lamar crap for getting Oden from Arkansas (with his two DWI's)...

All about second chances...

On the bright side, Oklahoma and Sam Houston both did their homework as it comes to compliance, acting accordingly when it came to the Bomar matter on both ends.

Would hate to get NCAA sanctions and have to fire a head football coach after he led a team to a league title in a possible unethical manner...

A little local "flavor" Mankato-styled on Bomar...

MANKATO — Minnesota Vikings quarterback Rhett Bomar posted $12,000 bail to get out of jail following his arrest early Sunday for alleged third-degree drunken driving.

The 26-year-old was arrested at 2:47 a.m. near the intersection of Second and Jackson streets in downtown Mankato.

Mankato police said Bomar refused to take a blood-alcohol test, which is administered through either blood, breath or urine samples.

TT does not have to go out and search for has beens that's getting petty charges that will never see trial. It is not like Bomar got caught doing something nasty like trying to buy a piece of booty off of a AIDS infected wh0re. Who in the world would ever be stupid enough to want to do something like that?

It's a former FCS quarterback who is STILL getting in trouble. I don't see what the big undertone is. That's a big enough reason to talk about it on an FCS page.

It's done everyday here.

Can we start a permanent thread of former FCS players who are in trouble with the law that way we don't have to have 20+ seperate threads about each and every individual player? xlolx

We could call it the "Former FCS *****ups" xnodxxlolx

I would also like to see the numbers of non athletes on some sort of academic scholarship just to be fair about constantly pointing out a DUI as if it some major crime.

Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier (and Alcorn State alum) responds:

"You've got 99 percent of the guys doing the right and one guy sticks out like a sore thumb, so (he was) really embarrassed and he wanted to talk to the guys about that," Frazier said.

Kudos to Bomar for asking and then speaking to his team regarding the incident...

Frazier seems to understand that incidents like this are part of the "territory" and unfortunately, in this age of TMZ, Deadspin and the like - if you are even a quasi-celebrity, you got to watch out what you do. Only gets blown up more than anything was even five years ago...
