I'm excited to be a Texans fan! Here's a recap of our free agent season thus far in terms of bringing in guys from other squads around the league. I think the Texans talent was better than the record indicated last year and with the help we'll get from the draft this year in the form of Reggie Bush and some pretty high draft picks in round two and three, the Texans can definitely improve. Love the head coach in Gary Kubiak and we have Mike Sherman on the squad too. Should be a much improved squad...

Texans just signed Sam Cowart to play middle linebacker. He's a former Minnesota Viking who has put together six-straight 100-tackle seasons.

They also signed Mike Flanagan, a former Pro Bowler from the Green Bay Packers who will be reunited with Mike Sherman, a Texans assistant. He's been hurt as of late, but he was pretty durable having started 87 consecutive games. Texans definitely needed some OL help.

A big signee for the Texans was Bengals WR Kevin Walter who could emerge as the #2 WR opposite Pro Bowl WR Andre Johnson. Also helps the Texans have one of the tallest WR corps in the league. Throw in Hampton alum Jerome Mathis who was a Pro Bowl return man and a dangerous recieving weapon, Texans will be fine.

Texans also signed TE Jeb Putzier, who played for the Broncos. In the last two years, he has caught 77 passes for 1087 yards. He played for Kubiak and Texans TE coach Brian Pariani with the Broncos. Texans could really utilize a pass-catching TE to go along with a sturdy RB in the backfield (Domanick Davis and/or Reggie Bush).

To help the defensive pass rush, the Texans signed DE Anthony Weaver from the Jets. He's started eight games at left defensive end on the Ravens this past year and in his first season with the Ravens (2002), started all 16 games. He'll start right away to help the Texans move from the 3-4 to the 4-3.

To replace Tony Banks as the Texans' backup, the Texans picked up QB Sage Rosenfels. He went 34/61 for 462 yards, four TDs and three INTs. Has shown the ability to be a sturdy, reliable backup.

FB Jameel Cook was signed from the Bucs. He can catch the ball out of the backfield too, which is great.
