UALR BACKS OUT OF BASEBALL GAME AT LAST SECOND

Perhaps University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff head coach Elbert Bennett shouldn’t use any ace pitchers when a nonconference foe comes to town.
Bennett used freshmen aces Bubba Tuggle, Aaron Terry and Justin Moring — UAPB’s No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 pitchers — for a total of three innings apiece against Arkansas-Little Rock last week, and the Lions (9-15, 4-8 SWAC) four-hit the Trojans (17-9) en route to a 6-4 victory that Bennett called a “signature win” for the program.
UAPB and UALR were scheduled to tangle again on Wednesday, but the Trojans failed to show up for the single-game contest at 4 p.m. at Regional Park.
Bennett said an unidentified UALR official left a message on an athletic department answering machine “a couple of hours” before the teams were scheduled to play on Wednesday, informing UAPB of the Trojans’ decision not to play.
Bennett called the UALR SID office on Monday to confirm the game was on, and was told it was a go.
“I’m very disappointed they decided not to show,” Bennett said. “I know it’s cold, but if they would’ve let us know in advance we could’ve had Jackson State or some other team come down and play.
“That’s all we wanted, was to play. Now we’re stuck out here. Our fans came out and, they’re upset because there’s nothing to see.”

Reportedly the massage was " I would rather forfeit than lose to UAPB":nonono2: :nonono2:

That's just sad. Says a lot about character, which is not much in this case. : smh : : smh :

UALR got it handed to them by new Div I baseball program SFA which is pretty embarassing considering three of the team's five wins on the year were against UALR. It's ridiculous! Hopefully UAPB refuses to play UALR in the future, but decides to play Central Arkansas when they make the move up. UAPB-UCA would make loads of sense for both programs...
Of course, we've already seen a SWAC team throw in the towel this year (PVA&M) against McNeese in the middle of the game...SLC is 9-1 against the SWAC this year by the way with only loss by cellar-dweller Niicholls St AT Southern after beating them twice.
I've been following the SWAC. Seems like there may be some new cream of the crop rising to the top this year in the SWAC? Is Southern going to be able to knock off Prairie View A&M? What about Alcorn St?

This thread started about UALR's decision not to return a game against their fellow state school UAPB and somehow (predictably) you go off on a SWAC bashing post. You got it bad, dude...really bad!!!!!!:bang: :bang:

Well, you guys had a SWAC school that walked off too this year. That didn't gain much mention on here. It goes both ways, buddy...
What humored me was on SWACPage, the initial poster said it was an "upset". An "upset"? How so? Since when did UALR become a power? Then, someone said beating any PWC is an upset. What?!?
As one poster said, "See this is where some of you bother me...you cannot compare La. Tech's athletic program to UALR....simply because a school is a D1 PWC does not mean their athletic program is worth bragging about beating."
And then I asked about who is rising as the new cream of the crop in the SWAC. I'm curious as to whom will come out of the SWAC this year since I'm a Rice Univ fan (across the board) and typically the SWAC representative will end up in a regional down south, which could include the Owls. That was not bashing at all.
Only bashing that could be considered was saying the SLC is 9-1 against the SWAC thus far this year. :)

Stop trying to divert...if you took exception to what was said on TSPN, you should have posted there. The fact that UAPB is in the SWAC had nothing to do with this thread...THIS thread was about how a team decided to cancel a game against an in-state rival without any due cause or explanation. How does this have anything to do with the SWAC? Other than the mere mention of ANY HBCU (even without mentioning that it is an HBCU) prompts you to come a running and a posting...

UAPB is a SWAC school (involved in the above incident) and I asked who is rising to the top? Is UAPB rising to the top to unseat Southern? Is Texas Southern or PVA&M going to win the conference? What's the deal? You going to tell me about your conference or what?

This may be the year that SU don't make it out of the tournament because of inexperience on the mound but it's still early and we still have Roger Cador.
