"VIERA, Fla. -- Alfonso Soriano refused to play the outfield for the Washington Nationals in what was supposed to be his spring training debut Monday night, and general manager Jim Bowden said his biggest offseason acquisition will go on the disqualified list if he doesn't agree to switch positions this week."

He's not a rookie and shouldnt be treated as one trying to force him to switch positions. They knew he had no interest in the OF before they traded for him, therefor there the idiots.
Either play him at second or trade him somewhere that will.

He's not a team player...Craig Biggio has moved from C to 2B to OF to 2B for the Astros over the years and excelled at C and 2B. That's a team player...most guys will move. There's probably more to this story than we know...

Yeah, he's a ****ty outfielder. I say trade him for someone that can play OF, thats what they really need. Soriano would fetch alot, and the Nats need more than an OF

Actually, they didn't know that - but they didn't really look into it, though - they could have easily found out, just as Soriano could have easily found out that the Nats would want him to move into the outfield. Makes you wonder what an MLB "job interview" looks like.
He's probably one of the most valuable players in baseball, so you'd think a trade could get the Nats something they could use.

Texas wouldn't let them talk to him before making the trade. It wasn't really out of the ordinary for them to assume he would change. Most guys are team players, Soriano is obviously not one of them

I read that...
Looks like he might be placed on the disqualified list...thus prompting baseball fans everywhere to say "I didn't know there was such a thing!"

That was my reaction, but this is becoming like a TO saga, so nothing surprises me. I say that they just trade him while they can actually get something for him.

I have trouble comparing Soriano to TO. Maybe there's a little room to compare the "team-vs.-single player" scenario to what happened between Philly and TO, but it's a stretch. I don't think Soriano has any disrespect for the Nationals, and his teammates are standing by him in his decision. He's simply too proud - in the Dominican, "middle-infielders-get-off-the-island-faster" way, not the cocky, "I'm-God's-gift-to-the-game-and-everybody-sucks-but-me" way exhibited by TO.
The trade landscape is particularly bleak for the Nats right now, so their best option is to keep him bound to the organization, ineligible for free agency, with no money whatsoever coming in. That ought to change to situation in short order.

What's the big deal about which position he plays? I just don't get it.

Most likely, he has always played middle infield since he was a child. Its much like little league really, the better players play in the infield and the bad ones you put in the outfield. He just hasn't changed his thinking, he's still a young guy, and doesn't want to learn a position he probably has NEVER played in his life.
