Running Backs Coach: CODY FREDENBURG (Mary Hardin Baylor)
Cody Fredenburg was hired on Feb. 5, 2010 to coach the Lumberjack running backs. He is entering his second season on staff with the Lumberjack coaching staff.
Fredenburg had a huge challenge in 2010 looking to replace the team's top two backs from a season ago, including second-team All-SLC selection Vincent Pervis. Fredenburg worked with one of the youngest squads in the country last season. The 2010 version of the SFA running backs consisted of two freshmen and two sophomores. By seasons end, SFA gained 969 yards on the ground and rushed for 15 touchdowns. The also caught 56 passes for nearly 320 yards and three scores.
Fredenburg came to Nacogdoches, from Hattiesburg, Miss., where he was coaching the Golden Eagles' tight ends. During the spring of 2008, Fredenburg also worked with USM wide receivers. While in Hattiesburg, he was assigned the responsibility of recruiting Texas and Kansas junior colleges.
Prior to his stop at Southern Miss, Fredenburg spent two seasons in Stillwater, Okla., as an offensive and defensive quality control coach at Oklahoma State. During that time he helped develop and implement the Cowboys' passing game, as well as working with the OSU secondary.
Fredenburg began his coaching career at Mary-Hardin Baylor, where he served as a graduate assistant coach. During the 2004 season, Fredenburg worked with the Crusaders' quarterbacks, and assisted with the strength and conditioning program during the offseason.
As an athlete, Fredenburg helped lead Mary-Hardin Baylor to two American Southwest Conference Championships, and was a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy (NCAA Division III Heisman) as a senior. A four-time all-conference selection, Fredenburg was the definition of a student-athlete earning academic all-conference honors all four seasons.
Fredenburg received his bachelor's degree in July 2004 from Mary-Hardin Baylor. He graduated with a Masters in Science in Coaching from Southern Miss in May 2009.
