While at a party, it is usually 6 to keep the games moving. But, if playing casually with just several people it is always 10. That's at least how we did it in Woostah.

The only pic I have of our table refutes your rule:

Beer Pong is played with paddles! I am surpised paddles are not en vogue at the 'gate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_pong_(paddles)

At Lafayette and Lehigh men play beer pong (with paddles) and girls play beruit (without paddles). Every spring Lafayette frats (those that are left anyway) each crown a house beer pong champion, and the respective champions play each other. The champion beer pong team is as well respected as any athlete on campus.

We were a Beirut campus. That may have changed since I graduated, but I knew nothing of paddles anywhere

Dartmouth was the only place I've been to that used paddles

Pong with paddles is big at Bucknell, Lafayette, and Lehigh. Weird that it didn't catch on at Colgate, but I know very few schools play with paddles.

Beirut at Holy Cross as well. Bucknell is rumored to have coined the name "beirut".

Taken from wikipedia:

In some places Beer Pong refers to the version of the game with paddles, and Beirut to the version without. However, according to a CollegeHumor survey, beer pong is a more common term than Beirut for the paddle-less game. The origin of the name "Beirut" is disputed. A 2004 op-ed article in the Daily Princetonian, the student newspaper at Princeton University, suggested that the name was possibly coined at Bucknell University or Lehigh University around the time of the Lebanese Civil War, Beirut being the capital of Lebanon and scene of much fighting. In the same article it is mentioned that in the 70s, Delta Upsilon members at Bucknell University played a game similar to beer pong called "Throw Pong" which may have contributed to the creation of beer pong. Some students at Lafayette College, rivals of Lehigh, insist modern, paddle-less beer pong was invented at their school, but The Lafayette, the college's student newspaper, says there is no proof to back up the assertion.

The world will never know.

When I started at Lafayette, pong and beirut were of course very big. However I never saw anyone outside of school play either game. Over time it spread and I noticed people playing at concerts and other events-- the paddle free game now seems to be everywhere.

I understand why the game with paddles hasn't spread. It takes up more space, and takes a while to learn. Only a college student has the free time necessary to master the game with paddles, but it is much more fun.

Beirut at Holy Cross as well.

Surely this, our shared Beirut heritage, is evidence enough to put HC-Colgate as the PL next great rivalry in the season's final weekend xreadx ;) xlolx

We had some pretty awesome 21 cup games on Hill Street back in the day (3 years ago really). Like somebody said a while ago, if there's a crowd, 6 cup makes the games go quicker, so that was what was played more often. If I could relive any days of my life........
