I asked myself the same question, figured it was lacrosse? Too bad for the Mids, way to go Colgate.

Correct. Lax=lacrosse.

Was the game played in Hamilton? If it was the Midshipmen were probably frozen in place.

Wow, nice job Colgate!

Lafayette scored a few goals on Navy to make the score look close. Maybe Navy will be down this year? Lafayette is the bottom feeder this year apparently. :(

Game was in Hamilton, but weather was not really a factor. It was in the low 30s, but no snow or other conditions to write the game off too. We played some outstanding defense, and got some timely offense from young (read: scholarship) players as well as we've got a good core of seniors to lead them.

Here's a pic from the game that shows Colgate's in shorts and Coach Nagle in a good mood!

Or maybe Colgate's going to make a move towards the top of the PL this year?

We've been just below that top level for since Nagle came on board. We did beat an 8th ranked Army 2 years ago. I think you're seeing the beginning of Colgate emphasizing lax as a sport at Colgate.

We're in the middle of what is arguably the best lacrosse area in the country, and now with scholarships (and some wins like these!) we can compete with recruiting kids from Cornell and, dare I say soon, Syracuse.

We've got a freshman named Brandon Corp who might be a great player as he gets older.

Exciting times for Colgate lacrose! :rotateh::rotateh::rotateh::rotateh::rotateh::rota teh::rotateh:

Was Navy's caoch pissed about having to travel to Hamilton?
Did the team bus get stuck in the snow on the way?

Navy has a great LAX program. In fact I beleive they were national runner-up last year to Johns Hopkins if I remember correctly.
Impressive win for the Raiders.

BTW, UD LAX is 8-1 with our only loss to #8 Georgetown.

Yes, Navy went to the finals. With Navy, Army, Bucknell, Lehigh and perhaps Colgate - the PL is one of the better lax conferences out there!

Don't think for a second that I haven't already noticed UD's position in the rankings, and my worst nightmare would be that we somehow have a great season - only to meet the Hens in the playoffs and lose! :bawling::p

Congrats on a huge win. I was in Oklahoma and out of the loop this past week on lax. Navy was in the Final Four last year. The PL is certainly becoming a conference to be reckoned with in lacrosse. I 've got my tickets for the NCAA championships in Philadelphia scheduled for May 27-29 at Lincoln Financial Field. Hopefully there will be another PL team on the turf!

and hopefully forcing our hand to adopt scholly's for additional sports including lax. losing to 'gate in women's swimming was bad enough, but i could live with it. if you pass us in mlax i will be sufferring mightily. it is one of the sports i really want scholly's in badly. of course, we do have a pretty good group of frosh without them.

We're still 2-3 years away from consistenly challenging at the top I think. I would put good odds on Bucknell scholarships in other sports before then. I think for next recruiting cycle.

As it is though, we'll be taking kids from Cornell and Syracuse before Bucknell IMO.

i think you are on target with the timing of our scholly's. the questions will be how many and which sports.

if you take players from Cornell and Syracuse, you will pass us by. we'll have to steal a few from Princeton and UVa just to compete. :D

Lehigh plays at Navy this Friday, Bucknell at home on April 1 and at Colgate on April 8. Our Yahoo streaming connection will let us watch and/or listen to some of 'em. Lehigh knocked off Army the other week but got beat by a very good Cornell last week, so this will be an interesting two weeks.

Probably not too hard to guess: m/w soccer, m/w lax, swimming, field hockey, softball, baseball... and probably a few others.

Lafayette will likely be jumping on the lax scholarship wagon. Along with bball, field hockey and men's soccer are defeinetely getting schollies. The schollie decision alludes to 'other sports' in the near future. I am assuming that has to be women's lax and baseball. Women's lax at Lafayette essentially owned the PL for ten years until the last three. There have been a lot of questions surrounding men's lax, but I don't see why that program should not be built upon... same thing with softball.
