First, yes this is football-related.

Second, I have questions in regards to the NCAA B-ball tournament(s) and payouts. This affects athletic departments across the board, including football.

My understanding is that the conference gets a "bonus" for being in the men's NCAA tourney, and an additional "bonus" for every round they win. In addition, the school that is representing gets additional money. Is that right? If so, does anyone know the numbers?

Does the NIT, WNIT, or women's b-ball tourney have anything similar?

What if you're an affiliate? I'm assuming that Villanova or Georgetown would get Big East money if, say, UConn wins it all, but do they also get money if, say, Bucknell or George Washington make the round of 16?

I ask because I'm curious as to what the impact of this money is on the football programs at their respective schools. For example, Villanova's tourney success seems to have little impact on the football program at all, whereas I see a huge impact on all of Bucknell's AD with their tourney win last year. I also beleive I see it in the caliber of athletes Bucknell have signed on the football field as well.

I believe the money goes only to the conference that basketball plays in. So, if Bucknell and GW do well, Nova and G-Town don't get to double dip in the coffers.

I am not sure about the NIT, but I don't think they would have something similiar seeing how most of the sponsors want to be seen at the Dance, rather than the NIT.

Sam Houston went 22-9 and nothing to show for it. Needed that win to get over the hump. Great season though. Now apparently our coach is a possible candidate for the Ole Miss job.

The NCAA tourney money goes to the conference. Each conference has it's own plan as to how that gets distributed amongst its members. Some just pass it on directly, some spread most of it out and give the school a little extra. It all depends on the conference.

Also, you build the NCAA "units" over time, and they continue to pay out for several years after the actual appearance.
