Multiple sources familiar with the arrangement say WVU is close to finalizing an agreement to play James Madison in 2012 at FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins. The game would be Sept. 15, the third game of the regular season, in Landover, Md.

The contract makes it a home game for the Mountaineers, but the Dukes expect to have a strong showing in the stands. JMU, a Football Championship Subdivision school in Harrisonburg, Va., is guaranteed $350,000 for the game, but can make an additional $150,000 in an attendance incentive.

Lots of JMU alumni in the DC Metro area. This is awesome news!

Dang, beat me to it.

Possible $500K pay day in a pro arena? Yes please. Both schools travel extremely well (obviously JMU is not on the scale of WVU) so there should be a good number of people there. Being both a Mountaineer and Dukes fan, I'm very excited about this.

This sounds like a fun opportunity.

Not to divert the topic, but your point about both schools traveling extremely well caught my attention. Maybe it's different when you folks are traveling in Virginia versus elsewhere, but in recent trips to Delaware I felt JMU brought as many fans as any of the other visitors. In 2009, and 2007, I thought that UR brought more actually.

That's what I thought too when I heard you guys travel extremely well. What a nifty little tall tale.

I'm going from Spain to Chapel Hill to see them play UNC this year. That should count more than once.

This is pretty awesome for the Dukes. Good job by your Athletic Department to line this up.

Great pick up by JMU.

Could this be a harbinger of an FBS move??

I wouldn't read into it too much, but I did wonder the same thing. Obviously one concern related to a JMU move to FBS is the small Harrisonburg market. Most of our alumni are in the DC area. It's possible that we're testing the waters to see what kind of fan support we can get against a BCS team in DC. We could potentially use FedEx for the occasional big game, in the same way UMass plans to use Gillette eventually. Amherst-Foxboro is not all that different than Harrisonburg-Landover, MD.

Or, maybe the WVU game has nothing to do with FBS ambitions. Who knows?

a lot of us did think about that... it's possible, but probably not likely.

just a nice pay day with the possibility of being a really nice pay day. i've already decided i'm wearing a white t-shirt because i'm so loyal to both teams (secretly i want JMU to win).

Then you need to wear purple.

I might have to check that game out. I spent the past weekend at the Winergreen Resort in the Shanadoah Valley and saw quite an impressive Stadium right off Route 81 passing through Harrisburgh. It is quite an impressive site.

Fixed.

Glad you had a good time over at Wintergreen. Should've stopped by the stadium and took a walk.

So who is excited?

Not sure if anyone was aware of the Livingsocial.com deal, but basically you get half off if you buy your tickets through them. Over 5,000 have already been bought through there and there are 4 days left. If any JMU/WVU/casual fans are interested in attending the game you can get the tickets here https://www.livingsocial.com/deals/423732?ref=conf-jp&rpi=76915886 The only bad thing is that you do not know what side you are going to be on.

Definitely excited. I gave up the "white shirt" idea i mentioned a few posts ago. I'll definitely be wearing purple. I'm not sure what i was thinking.

Hoping for a super windy but clear day. Windy could affect their passing but I don't want the ground to be wet so that our pass rushing won't be affected. Windy and sunny would be perfect.

Accuweather as of right now is saying sunny and warm, but light winds, of course, that is pretty far out and may change. http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/washington-dc/20006/daily-weather-forecast/327659?day=24

I like the FedEx shirts that you got with your purchase, looking forward to wearing that shirt. Will be busing up with two others that day.

Really excited about this game. Got a group of 10 going. But right now I'm more excited about visiting the 'burg next weekend for the season opener.
